With headquarters in Jacksonville, NFLT works throughout northeast Florida and has protected over 40,000 acres of land throughout the region.

Position Description

The Land Stewardship Liaison is responsible for assisting with implementation of coastal restoration projects and upland conservation activities. This position will also support the work of Stewardship staff on conservation projects, ecosystem restoration, prescribed fire management, and property monitoring.

Responsibilities

Coastal Restoration Projects

• The Land Stewardship Liaison will ensure proper implementation of Coastal Restoration projects by providing site monitoring of work, reviewing project plans and designs, documenting project progress, and reporting any observed issues.
• The Stewardship Liaison will work with contractors to verify that restoration work meets plan requirements and conduct final inspections where applicable.

Upland Conservation Activities

• Assist landowners that apply to the RCPP Corridor to Coast project. This assistance includes assessing landowner needs, gathering data, and prescribing management practices for forest health, water quality, water conservation, wildlife habitat and ecological restoration.
• Assist in the creation of maps for property management and conservation activities.
• Assist in the production of Baseline Documentation Reports for new easements, including on-the-ground field surveys and production of maps and reports.
• Foster relationships with easement landowners and offer management support.

Stewardship Team Activities

• Assist Stewardship staff with the prescribed fire on NFLT properties including prescribed burn plans, burn day activities, and other logistical support.
• Regularly monitor property conditions on foot, by vehicle, boat, or by drone. Identify and resolve land management issues as they arise.
• Assist with volunteer opportunities on properties and coordinate with other members of the Stewardship staff to schedule volunteer projects and workdays.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, natural resource management, environmental science or related field, and three (3) years of professional experience.
• Knowledge and experience in planning and oversight of conservation work on coastal and / or upland ecosystems.
• Knowledge and experience in prescribed fire is a plus.
• Experience working in north Florida ecosystems, knowledge of local flora and fauna.
• Experience operating 4WD vehicles. Experience with small boats and trailering a plus.
• Willingness to work outdoors for long periods of time in variable weather conditions, be able to lift at least 50 pounds, and safely operate power tools and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license, willingness to travel to locations throughout north Florida and at times, use personal vehicle.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Must be able to work well in a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
