Salary: $4,385.00 – $5,900.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:
A DNR Land Survey Technician primarily assists the Land Survey Crew Chief in performing skilled land survey work in the field under the direction and supervision of the Region Surveyor and in accordance with Washington State RCWs, WACs, Federal regulations in the BLM Manual of Surveying Instructions, Agency policies and procedures, and applicable bargaining agreements. 

Field responsibilities of this position include :

  • Use and operation of  GNSS receivers, semi-robotic total station, and data collection software
  • Assist with the execution of high-precision surveys of State land boundaries
  • Recording clear, concise, and legible field notes and sketches
  • Search for and verify GLO corner evidence using original GLO notes
  • Set State corner monuments and post State boundary lines
  • Safely operates four-wheel drive trucks on mountain roads

Office responsibilities include:

  • Maintain crew truck and ensure adequate supplies are available to support field operations
  • Assist with the maintenance of survey equipment
  • Assist with research and interpretation of historical survey and title records
  • Review, verify, and reduce field notes and data collection files for accuracy and completeness

Required Qualifications: 

  • Four years of experience performing land survey work, including two years as a skilled land survey technician at Engineering Aide 2 or equivalent level. Two years of college-level course work with a major emphasis in surveying may be substituted, year for year, for the required experience.
  • Experienced in the use and care of total stations, survey-grade GNSS receivers, data collectors, calculators, hand compasses, clinometers, measuring tape, plumb bobs, axes, machetes, chainsaws, and other tools.
  • A thorough knowledge of basic trig functions. Able to work with various types of computer programs. Familiarity with various note-taking formats. Knowledge of traverse route design, setup, and control. Knowledge of the public land survey system and general land office survey methods.
  • Able to work for extended hours in poor weather conditions and in various types of terrain carrying heavy and awkward loads; potential overnight travel outside of normal work area and for extended periods.
  • Able to drive a large pickup truck for 2-3 hours
