Do you want to be involved in an exciting new partnership project that will connect
regenerative agriculture, wildlife surveys and training? Would you like to take the lead in
training a new generation to survey for bats, dormice and hedgehogs?
Devon Wildlife Consultants (DWC) is the commercial arm of Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT), Devon’s
leading wildlife conservation charity. Profits from the company are donated to Devon Wildlife
Trust to help deliver its extensive programme of conservation, learning and engagement
activities. DWC are looking for a Landscape Survey Coordinator to join our friendly and
close-knit commercial consultancy team and to lead the delivery of a new project.
DWC are involved in a project called ‘Connecting People and Landscapes’ which is being led by
the Bat Conservation Trust and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is a new role
required to deliver the project and will involve planning and coordinating surveys, training
junior staff and liaising with project partners, landowners and community groups. There will be
a focus on surveying for the target species of the project; seven bat species, dormice and
hedgehogs.
The Connecting People and Landscapes project will utilise previously untapped species data to
identify areas of pressure and potential expansion that will target areas for focussed species
interventions. We will work with land managers leading in the field of regenerative agriculture
to share and develop best practice and transfer knowledge across regional clusters to deliver
habitat that will benefit people and nature, as well as train a new and more diverse generation
in sustainable farming methods and ecological surveying.
This is a partnership project being led by Bat Conservation Trust (BCT), project partners are:
Devon Communities Together (DCT), Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) (with contractors Devon Wildlife
Consultants (DWC)), East Devon National Landscape, Knepp Estate, South Devon National Landscape
(SDNL) and University of Exeter (UoE). Project staff will be hosted across the partnership,
with roles based at BCT, DWC, SDNL and UoE, and expertise provided by the other partners.
In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:
The project will run for 18 months in its development phase, with the aim of securing
four-years of delivery phase funding following this. There will therefore be the opportunity
for this contract to be extended subject to the CPL partnership successfully securing delivery
phase funding.
This is a full-time, fixed term contract until 31 March 2025 based at Aldens Court, Exeter. A
part-time appointment at 0.8 FTE will be considered. If you are applying on a part-time basis,
please could you indicate this in your covering letter.
Interviews are being held on Tuesday 9 April.
We welcome candidates of all backgrounds and abilities who meet the essential criteria for this
