About this opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced psychologist to establish this new service!
As the Lead Clinical Psychologist, you will provide leadership to a small team of psychologists and psychology students and assist with psychology service development.
You will be required to apply your advanced clinical knowledge and expertise to the assessment of clients with complex trauma, mental health and substance abuse issues, the role also provides clinical advice to staff providing direct intervention and support to clients.

Duties include but are not limited to…
- Support the team and other staff in clinical decision making.
- Provide direct line management to clinical psychologists and support them throughout their employment lifecycle (induction, performance feedback conversations, employment changes etc.)
- Work with the Exec and Program Managers in establishment and development of psychology service
- Provide accredited clinical supervision to students and staff as required
- Undertake assessment and provide practical recommendations for evidence-based interventions/approaches for clients
- Provide assessment feedback to clients in plain language
- Build capacity for client management within the broader staffing group by providing psychological perspectives

Key Selection Criteria:
We are looking for an individual who can utilise their experience to provide leadership to our newly established psychology services as well as provide clinical expertise to our staff and clients.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Registration as a Psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with practice endorsement as a Clinical, Forensic or Clinical Neuropsychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) (or eligibility to enter a registrar program as a clinical, forensic or clinical neuropsychologist with the AHPRA where relevant)
- Approved supervisor status to supervise registrars and provisional psychologists with AHPRA
- At least 5 years of experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of substance misuse and/or mental illness
- Clinical College Membership or eligibility for this
- Capacity to undertake a range of screening, assessment and design treatment recommendations with clients who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Current knowledge of effective evidence-based interventions appropriate to low prevalence disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorder and substance abuse.
- Ability to work with clients from a range of cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal communities, and to provide gender sensitive services.
- Ability to see the person, acknowledge their value and work with their strengths.
- Well-developed writing skills and an ability to promptly prepare case assessments and other forms of in plain English, suitable for a lay audience.
- A thorough understanding of the policies and procedures associated with the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
