The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV), is currently recruiting for a Lead Social Worker.  The Lead Social Worker will be based at the THRIVE Clinical Program at UMMS Midtown Campus providing clinical social work services to patients and direct clinical supervision to social work staff. This individual will provide behavioral health interventions and assist patients with all psychosocial needs relating to their HIV care. They will also mentor other social workers along their career development and develop new program initiatives. They will also provide individual therapy to a subset of patients.

Primary Duties:

  • Oversee a program or resources. Provide clinical social work interventions on a team with an Infectious Disease Specialist, Registered Nurse, and Medical Assistant. 
  • Use individualized plans to provide social services and apply the theories, knowledge, procedures, methods, and/or ethics derived from a formal educational program. Provide clinical case management to patients needing intensive support services including the development of assessments and care plans to help achieve social-emotional-behavioral success. Identify and constructs service plans that best meet the client’s needs and determine best resources available.
  • Provide grant-funded services to patients who have challenges in meeting basic needs such as food insecurity, lack of transportation, and pending evictions. Responsibility for program elements. 
  • Provide supportive counseling, address suicide risk, and develop therapeutic behavioral health interventions as part of the Collaborative Care psychiatric model. Provide solution-focused therapy to patients living with HIV.
  • Counsel and diagnose individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues in accordance with licensure.
  • Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports, and other accountability measures.
  • Train, guide, and provide clinical supervision to colleagues with LMSW and a graduate social work intern.
  • Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  

Education: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW).

Experience: Two (2) years post-licensure (LCSW-C) experience related experience in area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. Prior HIV experience preferred.

Supervisory Experience: Board of Social Work Examiners Approved Supervisor in Maryland

Certification/Licensure: LCSW-C

Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range: $80,000 – $90,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
