The role
As a lead data analyst at Manchester Airport Group (MAG), you will shape, define, document requirements for, and help to execute against some of our strategic data and business intelligence priorities. Leading a small team of data analysts, your role will be to partner with the business and wider technology product team to identify how data and analytics can deliver value, produce dashboard and reporting requirements, and develop analytics backlogs. You’ll also work with the business intelligence development team in an agile manner as they create the reporting solutions your business stakeholders have asked for, acting as the bridge between the business areas and technology development teams.
The lead data analyst role is also charged with developing the standards, documentation, and approach to gathering data requirements. You’ll define and implement the ways of working and play an active role in developing your data analyst team. Whilst a big part of the role is about making sure we get requirements right and produce dashboards, you’ll also be tasked with how we move from basic reporting delivery to drawing insights and running analytics to drive business intelligence and decision making.
Using data to enhance our business decision making is a key priority for MAG as we seek to build back from the pandemic in a more digital way. Getting the basics right on data and reporting is the first step, but as a lead data analyst we also want you to have the ambition to drive MAG beyond the basics. The opportunity for this role holder to influence the way the business thinks about data, uses it to optimize its operations and to make commercial decisions is significant.
What will make you successful in the role?
Essential technical skills:
You’ll have extensive BI & Analytics experience with a good understanding of Data Warehousing, ETL processing and presentation layers. You have a good understanding of data modelling techniques and approaches. You’ll have a solid understanding of data technologies and the graduation from reporting and business insights to analytics. You’ll have experience working with PowerBI or similar visualisation tooling. You ‘ll ideally be experienced in applying different analytics models with a data science background. You’ll have a good understanding Data Governance and how to implement Data Governance within projects. You can design complex low-level design documentation for Data, BI and Cloud solutions. You can interpret Conceptual and Logical designs into Physical Designs. You have a good understanding of cloud technology and how it fits into a modern BI architecture. You’ll have a good understanding of how the business will use data & technology. Data security & Protection will be a part of your role and you’ll be involved with updating and creating Data principles & guidelines. You’ll understand Data, BI & Analytics capabilities & technologies, including self-service data discovery, Smart data prep, enterprise led deployments.
Desired technical skills:
If you have any experience in Big Data, AI and machine learning, Monetisation of data -using APIs, Defining POC criteria & success, this would be highly advantageous.
General business skills:
You’ll be commercially astute with excellent written & oral communication and presentation skills. You’ll have extensive experience interacting with senior stakeholders. You’ll have a proven ability to complete projects and achieve results in an ambiguous work environment. You’ll have a proven ability to establish and articulate a vision, set goals, develop and execute strategies, and track and measure results. You’ll have a proven ability to work within a matrixed team to achieve expectations. You’ll have strong negotiating and consensus building abilities.
