The position has responsibility for leading a team of organisers in NSW, within our Early Childcare Education & Care (ECEC) Portfolio.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role will lead a dedicated team of organisers in NSW, working to build union membership and power in the ECEC sector. They will be part of a national ECEC leadership team, working to support national campaigns within key employers in the sector.

This role reports to the ECEC Coordinator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Turn strategic organising/campaign plans into operational plans to build a sustainable organisation and contribute to achieving the objects of the Union
  • Lead a team of Organisers to implement organising/campaign plans ensuring membership growth; member leadership and participation; and winning industry power
  • Contribute to sector-wide communications including digital communications
  • Facilitate sector-wide consultative committees and employer negotiations
  • Support Member Leader structures
  • Lead and facilitate state-wide industry committee
  • Contribute to bargaining strategy
  • Provide required reporting on all matters related to the implementation and operation of organising/campaign plans
  • Assess and support the development of Organisers; delegates and members
  • Drive forward the union values of equity, diversity and inclusion

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The Lead Organiser demonstrates:

  • A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieve the goals of the Union;
  • Experience in union organising and campaigning;
  • Experience in organising strategy development, planning and reporting;
  • Experience in leading and managing a team;
  • Leadership development, including motivating and educating others;
  • Excellent communication, messaging and rapport building skills;
  • Excellent negotiation skills.

To perform this role, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • A valid driver’s licence; and
  • Right of Entry Permits

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience;
  • 16% superannuation
  • 6 weeks annual leave with an additional 25% leave loading
