Lead Researcher

 

Climate Change Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA)

 

About the Opportunity:

Internews is seeking a researcher to lead an assessment of the Climate Change Information Ecosystem (IEA).

The purpose of the( IEA) is to examine:

1) How climate change reporting (including mis- and disinformation) is created, published, and disseminated in the Iraqi media.

2) How this information is received, consumed, and shared among citizens and government stakeholders. The IEA will focus on the Iraqi media landscape coverage of climate change, its impacts on citizens and their well-being, and communication about it among the public and authorities, highlighting women and other marginalized populations in particularly affected areas of the south.

 

Approach and Methodology:

The assessment will employ a mixed-methods approach that includes both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The assessment will encompass media content analysis, surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with relevant stakeholders, including journalists, government officials, citizens, and community leaders.

Outputs:

One comprehensive Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) report on climate change reporting in Iraq, focuses on the southern cities. The report will be published and shared with key stakeholders to inform future activities and priorities related to climate change communication and reporting.

Working Days:

The total number of working days allocated for this task is 40 days.

Contract Duration:

The contract will last for a period of four months from the start date, with deliverables expected to be completed within this timeframe.

Research Location:

The research will be conducted across Iraq, with a particular focus on southern Iraq.

Travel Considerations:

Internews will cover the travel costs for the lead researcher or assistant researcher conducting the IEA assessment, including two flight trips and up to three ground trips.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Excellent understanding of the climate requirements.
  • Prior experience in media development and/or climate research. 
  • Excellent understanding of Iraqi media and environmental context. 
  • Excellent command of English, Arabic and Kurdish languages.
