We are now looking for a Lead Scientist to join our Exposure Assessment and Control (EAC) Team
on a permanent, full-time basis. The EAC Team is part of our Science Division’s Health Group
which exists to prevent worker ill health caused by exposure to physical, chemical and
biological hazards.

Part-time hours are available for this role, for applicants who can commit to working a minimum
of 30 hours per week.

The Role

As a Lead Scientist, you will develop and manage a portfolio of research and scientific support
in noise and vibration exposure and control in humans that underpins HSE’s guidance and
regulatory approach.

Leading work within the wider context of workplace health risk management, you’ll collaborate
with colleagues from original idea stage through to the final delivery of outputs, identifying
the skills and resources required for the successful delivery of projects.

You’ll encourage colleagues to conduct innovative research that is aligned to the Science
Division’s business and science strategies, and present findings to HSE, industry stakeholders
and scientific peers.

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake some travel for site visits and
meetings on an ad hoc basis.

About You

To be considered as a Lead Scientist, you will need:

  • Significant, relevant and recent practical experience of leading research or assessment and
    management of human exposure to noise and/or vibration and/or experience within the workplace,
    environmental impact assessment, product safety or other contexts will be considered
  • Experience of managing other project team members
  • Experience of initiating and developing projects from initial idea to final delivery
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Outstanding organisational and preparedness skills
  • A BSc Degree (ideally an MSc) or equivalent in Physics or allied relevant scientific area
  • A full, valid driving licence
