The platform is responsible for the end-to-end journeys for personal current accounts and savings products to consumers and providing a market leading customer experience through the servicing of Debit and Credit cards through multiple channels.As a Lead Software Engineer in the Savings Lab, you will help to transform, modernise and re-imagine our existing platforms and services, adopting the latest technology and agile ways of working to deliver iterative value at paceWhat you’ll doWork as part of a self-organised engineering team to design and develop software features or services that are delightful and vital in our mission to help Britain prosper.Be a technical leader both within your team and outside, coaching and/or mentoring other more junior engineers as appropriate.Work with the product and engineering leads to achieve the vision and customer outcomes for your Lab, through writing well-factored and tested code.Be curious about technology and understanding how things work. You’ll influence positively demonstrating the right values and behaviours as we improve how we deliver.What we’re looking forA capable technical leader, who takes ownership of design and delivery and is willing to help grow and guide junior engineers within their team and area.Deep understanding and proficiency in at least one language (Java w/Spring Boot, Go)Experienced with modern engineering concepts and technologies such as Microservices, RESTful APIs, Kubernetes, Git, Jenkins, ArgoCD and Tekton.Strong understanding of distributed system architectures and a proven ability to deliver high quality applications at scale.Ability to write efficient and scalable software as well as experience with performance profiling and optimisation.Experience building and maintaining payment services in live on the cloud is desirable.Strong knowledge of security patterns and best practiceAbility to effectively communicate and work collaboratively across engineering function to maximise inner-sourcing opportunities and reduce waste.An advocate for quality that can support the team leveraging: CI/CD best practice, Pair Programming, TDD and BDDStrong analytical skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.What you’ll get to learn (any previous experience would be advantageous)Working in the private / public cloud domain at scale, primarily with GCP.
