West Cumbria Rivers Trust (WCRT) is a registered environmental charity dedicated to the
preservation and improvement of the wildlife and habitats of rivers, lakes and the surrounding
countryside in West Cumbria. We are a successful Rivers Trust with a territory covering several
principal river catchments which include seven iconic lakes spanning a substantial part of the
Lake District National Park and West Cumbria. We have an impressive track record of successful
delivery of projects and are looking to employ a Learning and Engagement Officer to run the
educational and outreach aspects of our new and exciting ‘A Wilder Walkmill’ project at
Walkmill Community Woodland.
WCRT believe that reconnecting people to the natural world is essential to safeguarding its
future and it also comes with a host of physical and mental health benefits for people. This
exciting role will be delivering environmental education, Forest Schools and community
activities as part of this four year National Lottery Heritage Fund project, with the aim of
engaging people in the watery world at Walkmill Community Woodland to ensure its preservation
for future generations.
The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject and have at least 2 years’
experience in delivering environmental education sessions and events to a broad cross section
of society. You will be a self-starter who can demonstrate a committed, mature and flexible
approach to the project and have the passion to engage and enthuse others. You will also have
excellent project management, organisational, communication and reporting skills.
You will be part of a small but expanding team based in Keswick (although a flexible approach
will be required as much of the time will be spent out on the west coast), reporting to A
Wilder Walkmill Project Manager and supported by WCRT’s Trustees and staff.
If you believe that you have the passion, commitment and skills to take this exciting
opportunity forward then we would like to hear from you. For further details please visit the
