Position Summary
The Learning Management Systems (LMS) Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of online course design and delivery related to Canvas, the LMS, in the Olin Business School. The LMS Manager will have a deep understanding and the technical knowledge of how to effectively leverage the power of the LMS to support high quality and innovative courses, as well as contribute to continuous learning and improvement in Olinâ™s programs. This LMS Manager will serve as an expert resource for all of Olin and strategically and creatively find avenues to knowledge-share and support LMS usage to enhance student learning in all modalities.
This position will not only be responsible for the day-to-day support for the LMS within Olin, but will help develop ways to create strategic impacts and operational efficiencies by using the tools within the LMS to their full capabilities. By leveraging data and analytics within the LMS, the LMS manager will be an effective problem-solver and tackle their work with a systems-oriented approach.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

LMS Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Stays current on Canvas changes and enhancements.
  • Understands the effects of these changes, develops implementation plans, and communicates effectively with key stakeholders.
  • Researches and tests new learning tools, both within LMS and those that have possible integrations.

School LMS Administration

  • Leads and manages all needed complex technical support of the LMS and external learning tools for all of Olin.
  • Collaborates with the Information Technology department to ensure the integration, security, accessibility, and scalability of tools within Canvas.
  • Manages the course and content copy process.

Strategic Data Analysis

  • Reviews, interprets, compiles and reports on analytics within the LMS on a systems-level to support a continuous improvement environment; provides recommendations on ways to improve operations and course design.
  • Collaborates with key data stakeholders across the University, including the data warehouse, to understand and effectively leverage data systems and architecture, especially those that are interdependent with the LMS.

Team Management

  • Manages a team of Instructional Technology Specialists. Manage their day-to-day work and long-term professional development.
  • Mentors, coaches, and provides direction to ensure a highly-functioning and collaborative team.

Training and Development

  • Provides formal and informal training and development opportunities on the LMS and its tools to various stakeholders within Olin by providing content expertise and leveraging best practices in training and development.

Project Management

  • Serves as lead project manager on an extensive range of project involving cross-functional teams.
  • Monitors key milestones to ensure progress and effectively use project management software to aid in project progress and transparency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masterâ™s degree in computer science, business analytics, educational technology, business, or related field.
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with LMSs, especially Canvas, preferably in an administrator capacity.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, visualization, and tools such as Tableau.
  • Experience managing and leading multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills,
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; takes initiative to resolve issues independently and with urgency.
  • Ability to triage and troubleshoot multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to collaborate, create and innovate.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, easily adapting to fluctuating workloads, deadlines and needs.
  • Demonstrated effective organization skills with a high attention to detail, including the ability to work independently as well as use discretionary judgment with an analytical and critical-thinking mindset.
  • Experience working with technical systems and staff who support them.
  • Experience leading projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead and develop short-term and long-term strategy.
  • Ability to effectively set expectations with instructors and office colleagues.
  • Familiarity with project management tools.
  • Familiarly with data analysis tools.

Required Qualifications

Bachelorâ™s degree in Instructional Development or Design, or related field and three years of experience or Master’s degree and one year of experience.

Salary Range
$57,300.00 – $97,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
