Learning Support Coordinator

  • Advocate for learning support program and students
  • Ensure a consistent whole-school approach to meeting the academic needs of students with learning challenges
  • Supervise the universal screening of all elementary school students three times each year and collate results to be sent to teachers
  • Facilitate the identification, referral, and evaluation of students who may need Learning Support services
  • Delegate individual students to Learning Support staff, facilitate Learning Support timetable, and monitor individual workloads
  • Meet regularly with individual Learning Support staff and support them in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of services
  • Organize weekly or bi-weekly Learning Support department meetings
  • Ensure up-to-date documentation of all students receiving Learning Support services
  • Communicate regularly with Elementary and Secondary Principals
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of the Student Support Services (i.e. Wellness, Health, Child Safety) when necessary to ensure holistic support of students
  • With input from others in the department, consider and request appropriate purchases as necessary
  • Review and update Learning Support policies and procedures as necessary
  • Assist in connecting, collaborating, and communicating with potential outside specialists when necessary and appropriate
  • Together with the Learning Assessment Specialist (internal or external), evaluate whether or not a student qualifies for a Cambridge, SAT, and/or ACT accommodation, consulting with the examination board as necessary
  • Communicate with the Cambridge Assessment Coordinator to ensure students are registered for appropriate accommodations on Cambridge Examinations.
  • Communicate with the Guidance Counselor to ensure students are registered for and receive appropriate accommodations on the SAT, ACT, or other external exams.
  • Organize trainings (together with the Learning Support team) for staff and parents to increase awareness of learning differences and how to support students in the classroom and at home.

  • Participate in student chapel regularly
  • Participate in school activities outside of class time according to interest and need
  • Actively supervise students during breaks and before/after school as scheduled
  • Comply with reasonable directions given by a supervisor/principal/leadership
