About the opportunity | Established in 1818, Dalhousie is a leading research-intensive university offering more than 180 degree programs in 11 faculties. The Faculty of Arts and Social Science is a dynamic body of students, faculty, and staff arranged into upwards of twenty programs and departments, many offering graduate degrees. Fountain School of Performing Arts is the only university-level performing arts school east of Montreal, facilitating a range of new opportunities to students of Music, Theatre and Film Studies. The Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA) at Dalhousie University invites applications for a twelve-month limited-term appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor commencing on July 1, 2024, with the possibility of extension. The position is subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidate will teach Voice and Speech courses and vocal coach for productions in our intensive professional actor training program (BA with Honors). Voice and Speech classes include vocal development over a three-year intensive voice curriculum, accents/dialects (including the International Phonetic Alphabet), and text analysis. The capacity to teach other facets of Acting training is considered an asset. This position provides support for the Fountain School’s production season through voice, text, and accent coaching. Attendance at some rehearsals is expected. Candidates with professional and/or academic directing experience and interest are encouraged to indicate that in their submission materials. Faculty will engage in the administration of the Acting Program and make active contributions to departmental committees, curriculum development, and student advising. Qualifications expected are an MA, MFA or equivalent degree with a focused specialization in Voice and Speech, as well as substantial professional theatre experience. Teaching experience at a post-secondary level is required as well as evidence of effective teaching ability (formal course evaluations). Candidates should be prepared to have their referees forward their letters of reference upon request. The deadline for applications is March 23, 2024.
