Job Summary
The Department of Politics and Policy in the Gwen Ifill College of Media, Arts, and Humanities at Simmons University invites the submission of materials for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position in American politics for Academic Year 2024-2025.
We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of effective teaching. The ideal candidate will be well-positioned to teach seven courses in multiple areas of American politics, including Introduction to American Politics, as well as other, more specialized courses that might include Congress and the Presidency, Parties and Elections, State and Local Politics, American Judiciary and Legal Issues. This position is a 10-month, full-time academic appointment and will require in-person instruction on our Boston campus. Advising students and providing service to the Department, School, College, and University are also required.

- This position is a 10-month, full-time academic appointment
- Carrying a 7-course teaching load per academic year.
- Demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement in teaching skills, pedagogy, and attention to equity, inclusion and belonging in the classroom.
- Providing support, through office hours and other means, to ensure every student is involved in a positive educational experience through learning, teaching, and intellectual engagement.
- Advising students and providing service to the Department, School, College, and University
- Participating in the ongoing creation of explicit and implicit curricula in consultation with program faculty and leadership.
- Support the department’s assessment, planning, and documentation
- Demonstrating service to the department, college, or university through committee work.
Academic Responsibility
- Serve as course lead and instructor for on-the-ground courses on Simmons Boston Campus, and occasional online courses.
- Support course development and revision of classes.
- Participate in ongoing Department curricular planning and periodic program review of on-the-ground and online classes.
Other Duties:
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Political Science or a related discipline preferred; ABD doctoral candidates will also be considered
- Evidence of excellent teaching
- Effective communication and organizational skills
