The Role

We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic individual to join our team at Lecturer level to coordinate the Legal Advice Centre. The role will also include developing professional skills and teaching foundation components of our courses to our students.

Working in the Department of Law, this post is a permanent appointment teaching and supporting students on the professional experience modules and in related activities.

The purpose of the role is to coordinate the Legal Advice Centre (0.5) and teaching (0.5). This will involve maintaining and developing strong professional relations with the solicitors supporting the Centre through their pro bono arrangements. The role will involve reaching out to community groups where advice from the Centre would be helpful, promoting the work of the Centre and raising awareness of its activities. The role will also involve liaising directly with students to coordinate involvement in the Centre. The post holder will liaise with academic and professional services staff to promote the Centre’s activities. The role will involve teaching and assessment in presenting professional skills and key areas of law within the undergraduate curriculum while supporting the university future skills strategy.

This is a career-defining opportunity at the heart of a department that has an established reputation for the teaching of law, and also for the success of its graduates.  You will join a collegiate team of academics, whose research interests provide exciting opportunities for students to benefit from research-led teaching, workshops and seminars.

You will plan, deliver and assess a range of modules using a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a vibrant education.

The Person

You will hold an LLM or equivalent, and will have a legal qualification as a solicitor or barrister with recent experience of legal practice in England and Wales, commerce or industry. Experience in teaching on either the Legal Practice Course, SQE or Bar Vocational Course would be an advantage. The role will require the ability to support the development of students’ professional legal knowledge and skills as they progress to a career in the legal profession. You will also bring with you a recognised teaching or learning qualification. If you have not already achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, we will need you to do so before the end of your probation period.

On a personal level, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your professional experience to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting practical legal knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

Constantly seeking to improve, you will scrutinise your own work, build private and public sector networks, and work collaboratively to enhance the faculty’s reputation.
