This position is located in the Office of Administration of Justice and specifically in the Registry of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) in New York. The position is under the overall supervision of the Principal Registrar and reporting directly to a Legal Officer of the New York UNAT Registry (First Reporting Officer) and to the UNAT Registrar in New York (Second Reporting Officer). The UNAT hears and decides appeals filed by or on behalf of current and former staff members appealing judgments rendered by the United Nations Dispute Tribunal and other first-instance tribunals which have accepted the jurisdiction of the UNAT.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will provide a wide range of general administrative, paralegal and information system support. Duties will include: • Independently handle a variety of relatively complex verbal and written inquiries from internal or external parties, including providing detailed information on processes and procedures related to filing appeals with the UNAT; • Manage the processing of appeals in the OAJ Court Case Management System; • Proofread, format and conduct final checks for accuracy prior to publication of UNAT judgments and orders; • Manage the UNAT Registry input to the OAJ Case Law Portal on the OAJ website; • Maintain internal databases or other tools for tracking and trend analysis; generate statistical reports from these sources; • Create and maintain the Registry’s MS Teams files, including by managing case records and ensuring that all related correspondence and other documentation are appropriately filed; request official translation of legal documents; coordinate transcription services; • Coordinate organizational assistance for oral pronouncements of the UNAT, including scheduling rooms, webcast and interpretation services; • Supervise the logistical support for the UNAT deliberation sessions three times per year; • Conduct basic research to respond to requests by the UNAT Judges or Legal Officers on relevant rules and regulations or other assigned issues; • Perform and/or oversee completion of a variety of administrative duties to support the UNAT Judges, including processing travel requests, preparation of travel claims, delivery of case records, and visa support; • Manage the UNAT Registry’s e-mail box and draft responses, in consultation with the Registrar or Legal Officer; • Coordinate the preparation of financial documentation related to the processing of appeals; payment of honoraria and consultants; • Provide guidance and training to less-experienced staff; • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience
• A minimum of seven years of experience in paralegal work, conference servicing, general office support or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. • Experience with editing and proofreading legal documents is desirable. • Experience with court or legal case management software is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
