We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.About the role:All Legal Counsel within the Drax Legal Department are employed to support the Group through the provision of timely and high-quality legal advice, with particular focus on ensuring the Group complies with all relevant laws and regulations.In this role you’ll have the flexibility and opportunity to provide a diverse range of advice across all business areas and core services and participate in cross-Group projects as required, presenting the opportunity for extremely varied work, and enabling the development of a deep understanding of the business.Due to the broad range of work, the Legal Counsel (Shared Services) role lends itself particularly to individuals who are keen to learn and take on new challenges, and who are willing to take on work in new or unfamiliar practice areas. You’ll work alongside the members of the Legal Team who focus on supporting a particular business or core services. Whilst you’ll primarily support Drax’s UK businesses, there may also be opportunities to support the Group’s Pellet Operations business in North America and on other projects and matters overseas.This is a great opportunity for you to work in an in-house role and be supported by a very experienced team who will support your learning and development.Who we’re looking for:You’ll need to have a relevant legal professional qualification and experience working in a corporate/commercial environment. In-house advisory experience is preferred but not mandatory.You’ll also need to have –

  • Excellent technical, analytical, drafting and strong negotiating skills
  • The ability to provide clear and accurate legal advice
  • A pragmatic approach and an ability to assess and quantify commercial risk
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A flexible approach and be willing to take on work in new or unfamiliar practice areas
  • The ability to advise logically, concisely and persuasively
