£32,076 – £33,024 per annumAbout this opportunityA great opportunity has arisen at Westmorland and Furness Council within our Legal Team for a Legal Officer to support the Council’s Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer and lawyers in the team as directed by the Council’s Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer.To be a success in our Legal Team you will:

  • carry out casework instructions received from the Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer and other lawyers (as directed) and have personal responsibility for assisting with the progress of cases, ensuring value for money and efficient use of resources;
  • be responsible for effective diary management, ensuring that legal matters are progressed with in a timely manner and delivered on time
  • personally manage casework and, where required, attend at internal or external meetings, working groups or committees on behalf of the Council
  • prepare reports, documents, minutes and correspondence on behalf of the Chief Legal and Monitoring Officer (or other lawyers as directed), taking notes at meetings/hearings as required, and assisting with the collection of data/information to support the Legal Governance and Democratic Senior Management Team;
  • use templates and precedents to draft legal documents / applications, utilising legal knowledge where appropriate
  • assist by liaising with courts and external partners and providing support to clients
  • have an ability and willingness to learn and develop knowledge of local government law and governance requirements including ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards
