The Arts, Events & Libraries Department at the City of Kingston is focused on the delivery of industry leading contemporary programs, activities, and events. The City of Kingston Library Service operates eight public library branches, with major sites at Chelsea, Cheltenham, Parkdale and Westall, and minor sites at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett and Patterson Lakes. 

The Role

Council is seeking a qualified librarian to join the Kingston Libraries team on a part-time basis (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, plus weekends as rostered). Reporting to the Chelsea Branch Coordinator, your role is to:

  • Undertake rostered customer service shifts for information and circulation duties, including weekends and evenings, and perform the function of “senior” on duty as required.
  • Actively promote literacy, and services, events, and programs that support literacy development, across the library service.
  • Represent Kingston Libraries by communicating with library users and the community, engaging in reader advisory, educating users on new and existing library facilities, resources, technology, and equipment, in a manner that meets customer expectations.
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to ensure that the libraries operate efficiently.

About you

You will have:

  • Ability to demonstrate the City of Kingston’s values of Future Orientated, Accountable, Dynamic, Expert, Community and Celebration
  • A Masters, Degree or Graduate Diploma in library and information service
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated excellent digital literacy skills
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a team
  • A keen interest and curiosity for new technologies and their applications in libraries

The salary for this position starts at $76,900 (Band LIB5) per annum plus superannuation.
