The Bodleian Libraries are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the Leopold Muller Memorial Library as a Library Assistant, working as part of a busy team, based in the Clarendon Institute, Walton Street.

The Leopold Muller Memorial Library, one of the Bodleian Libraries, is the main resource for materials and information support in Hebrew and Jewish Studies at the University of Oxford. It has grown to become a unique repository of over 90,000 books, 1,000 periodical titles and well over 90,000 rare archival items. Together with the Bodleian Collection of Hebrew and Judaica manuscripts and early printed books, it constitutes one of the country’s foremost centres for Jewish Studies.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to the overall operations of the Library. You will assist the Librarians in the delivery of a high-quality information service supporting research and teaching in the field of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. You will also respond to front-line enquiries and provide assistance to users of the Leopold Muller Memorial Library, its collections and resources.

You will be responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the front desk carrying out a full range of reader services transactions. You will also provide technical and stock management services, including some cataloguing of Library materials and project support. Your post will involve close communication with the Deputy Director.

You will be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills and be able to work to tight deadlines with accuracy. Demonstrably excellent IT skills and the ability to work independently are also essential. You will also possess the experience of working in a library environment, using an automated library management system and knowledge of library databases and online resources. Experience of cataloguing and the knowledge of Hebrew and Jewish Studies and the relevant languages are desirable.

This is a permanent, full-time position, working 36.5 hours per week.

This role involves manual handling – full training will be provided.
