This is an exciting time to be joining Libraries, Museums & Galleries as we embark on a programme of investment in infrastructure to support and enable the strategic ambitions of Liverpool 2031.

As a provider of comprehensive learning and research collections and services, our aim is to maximise the richness of our heritage collections with digital platforms and services that enable our users to advance and share their knowledge and deliver ground-breaking research.

We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated individual to support and develop the technical infrastructure of Libraries, Museums & Galleries, focusing primarily on the University¿s heritage collections but also contributing to wider systems strategies for service development.

You will lead on the technical elements of our Digital Shift strategy, supporting Special Collections & Archives and Museums & Galleries in establishing a new suite of systems, as we expand our portfolio of services in support of research and education. You will also have the opportunity to shape these services, providing technical input at the funding stage and driving the specification, procurement and implementation of new systems.

Reporting to the Systems Manager, Roy McCready, your primary responsibilities will be:

Maintenance and development of Libraries, Museums & Galleries technical infrastructure, covering a diverse range of systems, applications and services with a primary focus on the University¿s heritage collections but also working on wider service enhancements in collaboration with other areas of Libraries, Museums & Galleries, particularly Research, Content and Discovery.

The areas of immediate priority are:  

Digital preservation: implementation and ongoing development of our new digital preservation system Preservica, supporting Special Collections & Archives staff in its operation and expansion 

Integration: establish integrated infrastructure and workflows for the University¿s heritage collections with the specification and procurement of a new collection management system

Discoverability: enhance the interoperability of systems and synchronisation of data to deliver a seamless discovery experience for our users both within heritage and across the wider Library¿s collections, contributing to national and international research gateways, such as the Archives Hub

Digital scholarship: provide technical advice on digital tools and services on initiatives focused on the University¿s heritage collections that will transform the way audiences are connected with research and teaching resources
