Position Summary: 

Reporting directly to the Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) incumbent serves as the Life Safety Compliance Officer for the Medical Center and a resource for fire and life safety programs. Supports compliance of fire life safety requirements of Titles 19 and 24, California Code of Regulations, and other related codes and standards. Assists the DCFM on aspects of the fire life safety program and works closely with other safety and prevention professionals within the organization. Conducts and provides reports of field inspection of occupied spaces and grounds for compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, standards, specifications, and policies.  Conducts construction site safety inspections for fire safety per policy and in compliance with California Building Code and California Fire Code.  Conducts construction site inspections for compliance with requirements set for in the Pre-Construction Risk Assessment (PCRA) and conducts construction inspections and fire safety inspections of Medical Center facilities.  Attends program and construction meetings.  Meets with staff and public regarding code issues.  Responds to emergencies as required and other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

Annual Rate  Minimum  $73,900.00                  Midpoint       $103,800.00                 Maximum             $133,700.00

 

Required Qualifications:

  

Working knowledge of fire prevention and protection principles, practices and standards

Knowledge of construction methods, materials and assemblies

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Knowledge and skill in the application and interpretation of applicable state and federal laws and regulations including the Health and Safety Code, CCR Title 19 and 24, International Building Code, International Fire Code, and NFPA standards.

Demonstrated skill to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, fire protection shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, tools, safety equipment and instrumentation.

Knowledge of fire hazards inherent in the medical and clinical environments.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Bluebeam REVU.

Demonstrated experience enforcing fire safety standards in the operation, maintenance and construction of medical center facilities as specified in Title 19 and 24 of the California Code of Regulations, other related codes, regulations and standards

High school diploma or equivalent

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications from OSFM – CA Fire Service Training & Education System for Fire Prevention Officer 3, Fire Inspector 1, Fire Inspector 2, Fire Plans Examiner

Certifications from ICC – Fire Inspector 1 or 2, Building Plans Examiner

A.S. degree in Fire Protection or Fire Science, engineering, chemistry, physics or architecture equivalent and two (2) years of equivalent related work experience / training; OR four (4) years of equivalent related work experience / training. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
