The Lived Experience Peer Worker in the UpStart program plays a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health challenges to engage with their communities and explore employment or volunteer opportunities. Drawing from your own lived experience, you will empower consumers to build on their strengths and navigate their mental health recovery journey.

Our UpStart program is funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and offers flexible, person-led support for up to six months, helping consumers achieve their community engagement and employment goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consumer Peer Work: Connect with consumers through shared experiences, promote hope, and support them in accessing community and employment opportunities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the UpStart Care Coordinator to deliver comprehensive support, including participation in care meetings, reviews, and safety planning.
- Group Activities: Assist in the development and facilitation of group activities, encouraging consumer participation and engagement.
- Recovery-Oriented Planning: Help consumers create and pursue recovery-oriented care plans, focusing on attainable goals and strengths-based approaches.
- Flexible Service Delivery: Provide services through various modes, including telehealth and face-to-face, ensuring safety and appropriateness.
About You:
You have a strong understanding of mental health challenges through your own lived experience and are passionate about supporting others in their recovery. You bring experience from hospital or community mental health settings and are comfortable facilitating group activities.
Your ability to connect with diverse communities, including LGBTIQA+ and CALD populations, sets you apart. You are emotionally intelligent, collaborative, and dedicated to maintaining professional boundaries while empowering consumers on their recovery journey.
