With oversight from Nadia’s Initiative’s Projects Manager, the Livelihoods and Agricultural Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing business programs, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices and green economic activities to support the socio-economic reintegration of vulnerable returnees, survivors, and community members in Al Qahtaniyah, Ba’aj, Ninewa. This role focuses on enhancing human security, stability, and economic self-sufficiency through conflict-sensitive, climate-sensitive, and gender-responsive interventions.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs to promote sustainable agriculture, including crop diversification, soil conservation, and/or water management.
  • Design and implement demand-driven vocational training and business support packages for target beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the detailed project work plans in line with the budget and in collaboration with relevant units to ensure successful implementation of the project in accordance with relevant national and international technical standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of business, and agricultural and green economic interventions, ensuring they meet established targets.
  • Support the development of business implementation business programs plans that integrate green economy elements, such as solar energy and energy efficiency.
  • Facilitate economic reintegration for approximately 263 individuals through inclusive livelihood initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on income-generating activities, vocational training, and entrepreneurship development.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, and community members to support livelihood initiatives and strengthen peacebuilding efforts and promote environmentally sustainable practices.
  • Train and build the capacity of staff and community members on livelihood-related topics, such as financial literacy and market analysis.
  • Facilitate mentorship and technical support to beneficiaries, ensuring the sustainability of new and existing businesses.
  • Monitor the progress of economic reintegration activities and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to support beneficiaries’ holistic reintegration into the community.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, project objectives, and organizational policies in all livelihood interventions.
  • Report on progress, challenges, and lessons learned to key stakeholders and partners.
  • Any other task will be handled to him/her by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications Required:

  • Maters or bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Sustainable Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Fluency in Kurmanji and Arabic; very good in English (spoken and written).
  • Strong understanding of local economic conditions and the socio-political context in Al Qahtaniyah.
  • Understanding of sustainable development principles and green economy strategies.
  • Knowledge of peacebuilding and conflict resolution methodologies.

 

Experience Required:

 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural and environmental management, livelihoods programming, economic recovery, or a related field.
  • Experience working in conflict-affected areas, particularly with vulnerable populations and survivors of ISIS captivity.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing vocational training and business support programs.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Strong project management skills, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in market assessment and development of sustainable economic strategies.
  • Ability to build partnerships with local stakeholders and community organizations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Eligibility Criteria: 

Candidates must not be currently under contract with any government entity. Individuals who have been on leave from a government entity for at least 5 years may be considered.
