Chemonics International seeks a Livelihoods Lead for the anticipated USAID-funded DRC/CAR Resilient Communities and Sustainable Livelihoods in the Mbomou-Uele Region. The DRC/CAR Resilient Communities and Sustainable Livelihoods Activity aims to mitigate inter-communal conflict; building communities’ resilience in the face of persistent insecurity and economic hardship; and strengthening community engagement and development. The activity will also address the threats and drivers to biodiversity conservation to promote a foundation for peace, stability, and development in the Mbomou Uele region.

The Livelihoods Lead will facilitate programming to increase and promote sustainable livelihoods and foster economic security in the Mbomou Uele region. They will work closely with activity partners and civil society organizations to achieve these goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision, management, and technical direction of program activities related to livelihoods.
  • Develop and implement livelihood assessment tools and approaches.
  • Build relationships with the private sector, relevant government ministries, local government actors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Network with business leaders to track emerging markets and market demand for conservation linked enterprises, as well as enterprises for regional-level target populations.
  • Lead the development of aspects of the work plan related to livelihoods.
  • Support economic development assessments and use data to inform programming.
  • Develop different periodical reports, best practices, and case studies.
  • Develop training modules and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with operations, monitoring & evaluation, grants, and other program teams to implement, monitor, and closeout activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or another relevant field.
  • Seven (7) to nine (9) years of professional experience in implementing peacebuilding and reconciliation related donor-funded programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with national and local government counterparts and civil society organizations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including mentoring, training, and guiding staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Experience on donor-funded projects in Central African countries.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French, knowledge of local language preferred.
  • Position likely based in Kinshasa or Bangui.
