About Land’s Sake Farm

Land’s Sake Farm is a nonprofit community farm in Weston, Massachusetts, dedicated to connecting people to the land and to each other through sustainable farming, hands-on education, and food donation programs. Education is at the heart of our mission, and we strive to make meaningful outdoor learning accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Position Summary

The Livestock Coordinator & Educator works as part of a close-knit education team alongside the Education Manager, Assistant Education Manager, and seasonal education staff. Together, the team delivers approximately 600 programs annually, reaching nearly 10,000 participants.

This position is responsible for the daily care and management of Land’s Sake’s program animals—including goats, chickens, ducks, quail, and rabbits—while also teaching a wide range of farm-based educational programs. The ideal candidate is excited to work directly with both animals and people, enjoys building and improving systems, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves in a dynamic farm environment.

This is a flexible, hands-on role well suited to someone passionate about animals, education, and community engagement within a nonprofit agricultural setting. 

Key ResponsibilitiesAnimal Care & Livestock Management

• Manage daily care of all program animals (currently 7 goats, 4 ducks, 21 chickens, 3 quail, and 4 rabbits), including feeding, watering, grooming, medication administration, and monitoring overall health and wellbeing.
• Maintain, clean, and repair animal enclosures, pastures, and related supplies.
• Coordinate ordering, purchasing, and pickup of feed, bedding, and animal supplies.
• Communicate with veterinarians and animal care volunteers; respond to animal-related questions.
• Remain on-call for animal-related emergencies as part of a shared team schedule.

Education Programming

• Teach farm-based programs for people of all ages, including school field trips, afterschool programs, family programs, volunteer days, birthday parties, workshops, and occasional off-site visits.
• Collaborate with the education team to plan, organize, and deliver engaging programs.
• Develop and support curriculum related to animals and humane care.
• Train and support education staff in proper animal care and safe, positive child–animal interactions.
• Maintain clean, welcoming teaching and animal spaces.
• Assist with education-related administrative tasks, including scheduling, attendance tracking, and communication with schools and families.

Event Support

• Support special events and farm programs as needed, in collaboration with education and farm staff.

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and adapt in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
• Experience working with livestock or program animals.
• Experience working with children in a formal or informal setting.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a team.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
• Flexibility and reliability, including willingness to work weekends as required for animal care and programs.
• Enthusiasm for hands-on work, learning, and having fun outdoors.

While not required, candidates with interest or experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: beekeeping, volunteer coordination, event planning, vegetable farming, or art education.

Schedule

• Ideal start date: February 2, 2026 (flexible for the right candidate).
• Full-time position (35–40 hours/week) with a flexible schedule developed collaboratively.
• Must be available for a minimum of three weekend days per month, particularly during spring and fall.

Seasonal schedule expectations include:

• Winter (Nov–Feb): Onsite Tuesday–Thursday; remote work or time off Monday and Friday; 1–2 weekend days/month.
• Spring & Fall: Onsite Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Friday; ~3 weekend days/month.
• Summer (July–August): Onsite Monday–Friday, 9:00–5:00; ~1 weekend day/month.

February and April school vacation weeks, as well as May, July, August, and October, are peak periods. During these times, staff may work 40–45 hours per week and typically take additional time off outside peak periods.

Compensation & Benefits

• $18–$22/hour, based on experience.
