Salary: Grade 11, £46,464 – £50,512 per annum.

Your role:

Reporting to the Service Lead Childrens Safeguarding, as Wigan’s Local Authority Designated Officer you will provide professional and practice advice to the Council and its partners and will have the overall responsibility for the management of allegations of abuse against adults in a position of trust across the authority.

As a LADO you will lead staff allegations, management and safeguarding processes on behalf of the Local Authority and wider partnership. The LADO will ensure that effective processes are consistently followed in order to lead to the very best outcomes in terms of protecting children and young people. You will analyse and report upon data as well as undertaking Quality Assurance of the role, and communicating decisions and outcomes with key partners and employers.

We are inviting applications from those who are SWE registered, have a degree (or equivalent) in social work, have significant post qualifying experience in children’s safeguarding, and excellent knowledge of relevant child care legislation, policy and best practice. You will possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to work independently and confidently with a range of agencies, and be able to challenge practice at all levels. You will have a great ability to make tough decisions on complex cases. Our workforce enjoy a hybrid approach to flexible working.

You will be a strong communicator, with excellent knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, and the LADO roles and responsibilities. You will be able to adhere to Wigan Councils three behaviours, be positive, accountable, and courageous.

You will be able to carefully and sensitively listen to what others have to say at all levels of the organisation and constantly checks their own understanding before acting with an ability to monitor and evaluate performance of self to ensure excellent service delivery.
