Local History Librarian **

We’re collaborating with a local authority in the Greater London area, searching for an experienced Librarian to work within their Local History provision within the Local History & Archives Centre.

Contract: Initially 6 months, with potential for a permanent role.

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week.

Location: SE6.

Pay Rate: Starting from £23+ per hour (Negotiable based on experience).

*** The Council are only looking for candidates with extensive London Local History Expereience***

Purpose Of The Role:

• Deliver excellent customer care and engage with communities to promote a love of reading and learning and the full range of library services.
• Work towards improving service delivery and service performance.
• Understand, support and develop different ways of accessing library services across the borough to all residents.
• Work within a designated team to deliver library services and achieve service and Council outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, deliver and promote a quality local history service which meets the needs of local communities. Respond positively to enquiries and give professional advice and guidance to users of the Local Studies & Archives Centre.
• Plan, develop and deliver engagement with customers and partners to promote an understanding of local heritage and the local history and archive collections.
• Give professional advice and guidance to members of the public, Council departments and outside organisations, on local history matters.
• Develop and co-ordinate staff training around accessing the heritage collections and developing an awareness of local history and heritage. Enable colleagues to present displays and exhibitions of the Centre’s materials, to educate and inform the local communities on the history and heritage of the Borough.

Experience Needed:

• Local Authority / Public Sector.
• Experienced Librarian.
• London Local History.
