Job Description

The Brisbane South Primary Health Network (PHN) Capacity Building and Local Link Program is a growing initiative enhancing workforce capabilities within general practices and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services in the southern region of Brisbane LGA.

By fostering innovation and continuously testing new approaches, the program aims to strengthen connections between primary healthcare providers and the broader family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV) and child sexual abuse service system.

It also evaluates referred patients with experiences of gendered violence, facilitating triage to the most suitable referral services with case management provided as necessary

As a Local Link Advocate, you will be part of the Education, Recovery, and Healing team within Micah Project’s. You will work at the intersection of FDSV and child sexual abuse, collaborating strongly with South Brisbane PHN, the Centre for Women & Co. and YFS.

Your role will involve engaging with medical practices through both formal and informal educational and creative engagement activities, as well as advocating for the safety, equality, and respect of victim-survivors with clinics and the sector, including direct support the participants.

This is a fixed-term, full-time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 4/5, dependent upon experience, under the SCHADS Award.

Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and strengthen referral pathways between primary healthcare providers and the Local Link service system.
  • Provide case consultation and advice to primary healthcare providers on recognising, responding to, and referring patients who have experienced FDSV or childhood sexual abuse.
  • Assist in delivering innovative and adaptable training programs to primary healthcare providers.
  • Respond to and triage referrals from primary healthcare providers.
  • Support victims using a trauma-informed approach, providing comprehensive risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Maintain high-quality case notes and support plans to meet pilot evaluation standards.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with government and non-government services.
  • Provide culturally sensitive services that align with best practices and emerging learnings from the pilot program.
