Job description

The Opportunity

Are you looking for a new challenge in your career?

Do you have experience and knowledge of Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND)?

Do you enjoy being pro-active, collaborating and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, Local Offer users and key partners.

If this sounds like you, find out more about this Local Offer Advisor opportunity; you could make a real difference in helping our county be able to better communicate with families and to make improvements in life outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

As a Local Offer Advisor, you will play a key role in the development and continuous improvement of the Local Offer, championing its use with parent carers, young people and professionals within West Sussex.

You will lead and oversee the communication of West Sussex’s SEND Local Offer, as well as leading on influencing and shaping the vision of the Local Offer.

You will work in partnership with the West Sussex Parent Carer Forum (WSPCF), raising awareness of the Local Offer to those who may benefit from using it.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead on shaping and influencing the vision and direction of the Local Offer, in co-production with Local Offer strategic leads.
  • Overseeing those who are the first point of contact for service users, providers and professionals for information, advice and guidance on the Local Offer.
  • Lead the communications and engagement work stream that feeds into the overall Local Authority’s SEND and Inclusion Strategy.
  • Organising and prioritising your work to meet deadlines.
  • Dealing with sensitive matters confidentially.
  • Researching, evaluating, consulting, and using data to inform decisions.
  • Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, Local Offer users and key partners, and attending regular outreach events.
  • Managing and contributing to service projects and reviews.
  • Local Offer website administration, maintenance, and improvements.

About You

You will need empathy, understanding and emotional resilience to support parent carers, children, and young people. This would be alongside creativity, excellent communication skills and the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who has passion and commitment to drive positive outcomes, working in co-productive and solution-focused ways. You will have confidence to challenge existing practices, generate ideas, and recognise and balance risk. The successful candidate will have good knowledge and understanding of SEND.

Please note:

  • There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.
  • You will need flexibility to be able to travel to various locations around the county (and beyond), and occasionally to participate in outreach events during weekends and evenings.

The Local Offer is a statutory obligation of the Local Authority and has two key purposes:

  • To provide clear, comprehensive, and accessible information about the provision available to children and young people with SEND, their parent carers and service providers.
