The post is that of a Whole-Time Locum Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for 12 months.Any candidate who wishes to work less than full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Haemostasis and Thrombosis Service. It is expected that the successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment.The allocation of time between the various duties of the post will be open to some adjustment in consultation with consultant colleagues and the employing Trust. The appointee will work with colleagues to deliver a Haemostasis and Thrombosis attending system on a 1:5 rotational basis from 09.00 – 17.00hrs Mon – Fri and 1:5 on call weekends and nights.   • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • MRCP/FRCP and FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

Management and AdministrationEssential

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Personal attributesEssential

  • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
  • Good oral and written communication skills

ResearchEssential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and trainingEssential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.

Continuous Professional DevelopmentEssential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Clinical governance and auditEssential

  • Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Clinical experienceEssential

  • Specialist training in the clinical management of haematological disorders.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Haematology.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.

Desirable

  • To have experience in the investigation and management of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders.
  • Enthusiasm to develop a specialty interest in haemostasis and thrombosis.
