Logistics & Materials Manager

We are looking for a Logistics & Materials Manager for our Troy & Plymouth, MI facility. This role manages logistics & raw materials sourcing & scheduling for the Troy & Plymouth facilities, and assists the Head of Global Logistics on key tasks & projects in relation to the Troy & Plymouth facilities.

Your Responsibilities:

Logistics:

  • Manages the logistics teams at the Plymouth & Troy plants
  • Ensures the on-time distribution of finished goods from the Plymouth DC and, where possible, directly from Troy of Troy-produced materials, based on call-offs from the dispatch team in Westbury
  • Coordinates customer distribution activities, hereunder special customer requests, processes & systems with the Westbury-based dispatch team. Leads or supports customer audit activities in the warehousing & shipping areas
  • Manages the inventory of finished goods, including the documentation of cycle counts
  • Ensures that health & safety policies are adhered to at all times in all areas managed by logistics
  • Ensures conforming standards of packaging & load securing for outgoing shipments, including special packaging requirements for hazardous materials & airfreights
  • Maintains performance, utilization & quality metrics, reports, process documentation, training or safety records, as required
  • Manages quality issues, including customer complaints, in relation to storage & shipping activities, resolves any exceptions concerning transportation, logistics systems, shipping
  • Participates in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation
  • Leads or supports logistics or continuous improvement projects, plans or implements improvements to local logistics systems or processes.
  • Ensures carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery.
  • Prepares or files environmental certification applications when applicable.
  • Develops risk management programs to ensure continuity of distribution & supply in emergency scenarios.
  • Coordinates with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems or processes, such as dispatching Westbury, production, planning, procurement
  • Conducts or reviews environmental audits for logistics activities, such as storage, distribution, or transportation.
  • Ensures compliance with CTPAT accreditation for the Plymouth & Troy facilities

Materials Management:

  • Manages Raw material levels in Troy and Plymouth. This includes atomized raw, clad raw, blend materials, and bulk paste.
  • Ensures PO’s are placed in a timely manner to ensure Raw material is on hand to support production processes in Troy & Plymouth.
  • Works with Sourcing for creation of Qty Contracts with defined suppliers.
  • Advise Sourcing when new contracts are required and provide volume definition.
  • Manages bulk paste requirements and facilitates outside processing to support this activity.
  • Manages outside processing of product for Attrition Milling.
  • Works with Demand and Production Planning in both plants on a continuous basis to plan internal demand for raw materials.
  • Manages Cycle Counting process for Troy inventory and Plymouth DC.
  • Analyzes Troy Plant and Plymouth DC inventory on a continuous basis for consolidation and blending into future production.
  • Advises Plant Mgt. and Mfg. team(s) of any raw material impacts to Production schedule.

Your Profile:

  • 5+ years’ experience in managing logistics operations, preferably with international trade experience managing
  • 5+ years’ experience in a multiple product, Non-Repetitive Manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supervising teams and organizing daily workloads within a warehousing & distribution environment
  • ERP, ideally SAP, experience with a working knowledge of logistics software (Warehouse & Transport Management Systems)
  • Experience handling hazardous materials
  • 49CFR/IATA/IMDG Dangerous Good Shipping Certification preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Must be able to effectively apply knowledge to day to day transactions, with clear understanding and due diligence.
  • Self-motivated and target-oriented work style
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
