The Army

member-based charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to raise
funds to build the National Museum of the U.S. Army and manage
revenue generation operations in the Museum facility. Our funding
also helps acquire and conserve Army historical art and artifacts,
support Army history educational programs, research and publish
historical materials on the American Soldier, and provide support
and counsel to private and governmental organizations committed to
the same goals.

This position is full-time, and applicants must be willing and
able to be physically based at the National Museum of the United
States Army in Fairfax, VA, but are given the option to telework up

About The Position
The AHF is

demonstrated ability to communicate alignment between
organizational mission and prospective donor interests. This
position is based at the National Museum of the United States Army
in Fairfax, VA.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio
of donors interested in AHF’s mission. While a portion of the Major
Gifts Officer’s portfolio will be existing prospects and donors,
this role will also include new-donor identification and
    cultivation.
  • Implement moves-management strategies for engaging and
soliciting each donor and execute plans promptly.
  • Work with departments across the Foundation to secure
appropriate project information and create offers, proposals, and
    asks that resonate with donors.
  • With the guidance and assistance from senior leadership and
other colleagues, develop and implement development events and
activities, including, but not limited to, (a) face-to-face
solicitations and other personal solicitations; (b) parlor
meetings; (c) major events; and (d) meetings and initiatives
targeted at specific markets and affinity groups.
  • Perform other donor development activities as may be
    required.
  • Ability to successfully solicit donations, follow through on
pending asks and bring a gift to fruition.
  • Ability to write compelling sponsor offers, proposals, and
    requests.
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines while adhering to
the Foundation’s policies, working collaboratively with colleagues,
and promoting the Foundation’s mission, goals, and values.
  • Represent the Foundation to the community, nonprofits,
individual contributors and groups of potential donors throughout
    the region.
  • Review and assess existing donor files to identify prospects
for targeted relationship building. The goal is to upgrade and
sustain donors’ support, with a strong focus on securing multi-year
gifts, planned gifts, and endowed support.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising.
  • A high level of interpersonal and relationship-building
    skills.
  • Exceptional attentiveness to donors, with timely and courteous
    interactions.
  • The willingness to travel for donor meetings based on regional
    assignment – roughly 10%.
  • Experience managing special events and corresponding
    follow-through.
  • Understanding of and experience with fundraising technologies
(g., donor databases, web-based giving, etc.).
  • Knowledge of best practices and techniques to develop and
analyze return on investment for various development
    strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Commitment to
The Army Historical Foundation and The National Museum of the
United States Army and a strong desire to champion its mission is
