About the organisation
Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) manages over 1,500 rental properties for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander residents in Victoria. Our goal is to ensure that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples residing in Victoria have access to appropriate, affordable housing, fostering better lives and stronger communities.
As Australia’s largest Aboriginal Registered Housing Agency, AHV leads Victoria’s Aboriginal housing and homelessness policy, working in partnership with the government to secure resources and reforms. AHV’s targeted housing services, provided by an Aboriginal Rental Provider, strengthen, and maintain Aboriginal communities and cultural ties.
About the role
The Manager, Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Forum (AHHF) will provide high level support to the Director Strategy and Performance and CEO to lead Housing and Homelessness policy, advocacy, and sector development in Victoria.
This role will lead a team that provides high level executive support to two key forums responsible for driving and oversight of implementation of Mana-na worn-tyeen maar-takoort:
- The Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework Working Group, and
- The Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Forum (AHHF) made up of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Traditional Owners Corporations that are housing and homelessness providers
The Team will perform its role by supporting AHHF members, Community Housing Organisations (CHOs), Local Government and Homes Victoria and other stakeholders to coordinate policy development, partner and stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts. The Manager, AHHF will oversee the day-to-day work of the team, manage team performance, risk, and compliance.

About you
You are a highly capable leader who can lead and inspire a small team. You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely present information both in writing and verbally, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to broad audiences. You are passionate about improving housing outcomes for Aboriginal people across Victoria and have an understanding of the specific issues impacting Aboriginal communities.
Key Selection Criteria
- Ability to demonstrate awareness and respect for Aboriginal cultures, understanding contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly in the Victoria region.
- Proven experience in leading high-performing teams and be adept at managing competing priorities.
- Proven track record in developing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder partnerships.
- Experience in managing strategic policy, advocacy, and communications.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of community housing, including compliance with Residential Tenancies Act and Housing Act.
