Position Summary
Responsible for assisting the Director, Business Operations, by providing management and administration of the financial and business operations of the Department of Emergency Medicine and its divisions. Provides direct supervision for the departmentâ™s accounts payable, financial reporting, and budgeting and planning functions. Provides all-purpose assistance to faculty, staff, and fellows.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Director, Business Operations, in the direction of the financial and business operations of the Department.
- Responsible for projects and prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
- Provides executive level summary of fiscal activities and financial forecasts for the department and each of its divisions.
- Manages and is responsible for the preparation and analysis of the income and expense activities of the department and its divisions.
- Reports on the financial activities and the available funds for the department at the clinical, research, division and department levels.
- Coordinates and oversees reconciliation of the departmentâ™s internal financial reports to medical school reports and systems.
- Responsible for the tracking and reporting on the activities of the departmentâ™s endowment and specific purpose funds.
- Manages the maintenance of records related to the faculty professional allowance funds, investigator start-up funds, and discretionary funds.
- Responsible for and manages the preparation, submission, and consolidation of the strategic plan, financial reports, budgets, and four-year plans for the department and each of its divisions.
- Serves as liaison to the Joint Office of Strategic Planning and the Medical Schoolâ™s finance, budget, and planning offices.
- Coordinates the development of effort profiles and faculty compensation plans for the department and its divisions.
- Directly supervises the departmentâ™s financial services team, which includes an accounting coordinator and two financial analysts.
- Develops and recommends policies and procedures regarding the Departmentâ™s fiscal operations.
- Develops, implements, and monitors appropriate internal controls to safeguard the assets of the Department.
- Monitors compliance with departmental and external policies, regulations and guidelines for the departmentâ™s fiscal operations.
- Provides oversight for the tracking and reporting of all customer invoices related to the management and support services provided to BJC Hospitals and Community Agencies.
- Determines and evaluates the accuracy of the Medical School revenue and expense allocations to the Department.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the department’s chart of accounts and all financial accounting approvals in the Workday system.
- Reconciles the monthly and bi-weekly payroll audit reports in collaboration with the HR/Payroll Manager.
- Provide oversight for the completion of the annual space inventory and survey process.
Job Location
- Normal office environment.
- This will be a hybrid work location position requiring some days on campus depending on workload needs and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Business Administration and/or Certified Public Accountant.
- Extensive expertise in computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Workday and Adaptive.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated abilities for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain security of confidential information.
- Comprehensive understanding of and practical experience in the end-to-end budgeting process, in an Academic setting, encompassing all of its elements.
- Proven track record of successfully overseeing and managing a finance team.
- In-depth knowledge and proficiency in interpreting and analyzing financial statements, with a focus on profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
- Demonstrate a strong aptitude for critical thinking, along with a proven ability to work autonomously and proactively, even in situations where minimal supervision is provided.
- Exceptional skills in effectively prioritizing work assignments and efficiently managing time, especially when faced with high-pressure situations and tight deadlines.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in accounting or business and seven years of experience in accounting/budgeting.

Salary Range
$73,700.00 – $125,900.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
