ABOUT THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to manage and provide support to two Children’s Contact Service Centres in Lismore and the Gold Coast and our First Nations Community Development Workers in a Practice Lead position.

The Children’s Contact Service is a place for parents to engage in safe and friendly change-over and change-back in a relaxed, family atmosphere, in which children from separated families can connect with both parents.

Our First Nations Community Development Workers assist First Nations people to access Interrelate services through creating good working relationships, establishing referral pathways, developing innovative strategies, networking and promotion and enhancement of Interrelate Services. We provide cultural supervision to all our First Nations staff.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Inspiring and shaping clinical thinking and practice by providing clinical supervision, workforce development, staff engagement, and collaboration.
  • Communicating effectively with staff and the community by articulating Interrelate’s purpose and strategy and engaging in community consultations.
  • Fostering strong working relationships through leadership and strategic direction.
  • Delivering results by overseeing management, meeting clinical outcomes and KPIs, and adopting a client-centred approach to service delivery.
  • Committing to supporting reconciliation between the First Nations Community and the Non-Indigenous community by engaging in community outreach, cultural awareness, cultural humility, and continuing education.

This is a permanent part-time position, working 30 hours per week (4 days). You will have the flexibility to negotiate your working days and hours of work at interview stage. However, the job may require you to work evenings and occasional weekends to support the service’s needs.

As part of this role, you will need to travel across multiple sites within the Northern region, including but not limited to Lismore and Coolangatta.

ABOUT YOU:

You possess a relevant degree in psychology, social work, counselling, social science or related discipline. You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of families and children. You are calm and approachable and are skilled at discussing sensitive subject matter in a safe and respectful way. You have experience managing and supporting multiple teams across different locations, and possess strong clinical skills, team dynamics, negotiation and conflict management, interpersonal skills, and ethical standards. Prior experience in working with children’s contact services and families and children experiencing separation, family breakdown, and high levels of family conflict, will also be highly regarded.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant qualifications: Bachelor degree in psychology, social work, counselling, social science or related discipline; or a Graduate Diploma in counselling, community service or equivalent in addition to a Bachelor degree that is not a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in one or more of the following:
    • The provision of individual and/or relationship counselling to couples and families (3+ years preferred) and specific expertise in one or more clinical areas such as counselling, relationship education, children’s services, men’s programs, or family law; and/or
    • Early intervention, assessment, case management, and therapeutic support to children and young people experiencing risk and/or
  • Proven knowledge of child development, child protection, mandatory reporting, suicide prevention/ intervention, trauma, and family violence issues, and an in-depth knowledge of relevant sectors and Federal and State legislation
  • Proven track record of clinical and line supervision and support to multidisciplinary teams working with families, children, and young people experiencing challenges, and a strong commitment to, and the ability to lead staff in, working in the best interests of children as articulated in the Family Law Act 1975, in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and in accordance with the Royal Commission into the Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse Ten Child Safe Standards
  • Highly developed leadership and coaching skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting performance indicators and organisational compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in staff recruitment and development; client-centred service design and delivery; program evaluation and reporting
  • Experience in establishing community links and contacts for the purpose of developing and promoting strategic partnerships
