Major Function:

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Communications Manager to join the America Is All In (All In) team, under the Climate department

America Is All In, a program of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is seeking an experienced and dynamic coalition builder to serve as the initiative’s Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will lead communications efforts for America Is All In, overseeing high-level communications strategy and day-to-day operations for the initiative. The role will supervise and direct communications across America Is All In, including management of a broader communications apparatus based in several partner organizations. Moreover, the role will be responsible for building compelling narratives, strengthening brand awareness and impact, and developing communications resources to support the various constituencies of the All In coalition. All In members include thousands of U.S. cities, states, tribal nations, businesses, schools, and institutions of faith, health, and culture that work together to champion a whole-of-society approach to addressing the climate crisis. All In seeks to build stronger engagement by subnational and non-state actors to influence regional, federal, and international climate policy so that they can implement equitable climate action in their jurisdictions and institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and execution of the communications strategy for the America Is All In coalition and manages collaboration between communications staff and All In partners and contractors who manage media outreach and provide broader communications support.
  • Supervises the All In Communications and Social Media specialists, as well as coordinating with other staff as pertains to the development of communications products; supervises contractors around the creation of content and the management of America Is All In content platforms, including social media accounts, the America Is All In website, and creative collateral including videos, web stories, photographs, etc.
  • Oversees the development and execution of America Is All In storytelling efforts, including sourcing stories, assigning stories to partners and/or contractors for creation, and working with media support to design distribution and advertising plans.
  • Serves as primary liaison to communications staff for America Is All In’s co-chairs (current co-chairs include Gina McCarthy, Michael Bloomberg, Lisa Jackson, Vy Lyles and Jay Inslee) for the purpose of reflecting co-chair input into key statements; works with the America Is All In colleagues at WWF to prioritize and execute strategies to leverage the voice of the Managing Co-Chair (currently Gina McCarthy).
  • Works closely with WWF Climate Communications staff, particularly the Sr. Director of Climate Communications, including to receive overarching climate communications guidance from the Sr. Director of Climate Communications, to ensure that All In communications efforts are coordinated with the broader WWF climate strategy; liaisons with Marketing and other departments to manage information requests, content review, and other requests as necessary.
  • Strengthens relationships and establishes partnerships with a broad ecosystem of climate communications professionals and organizations focused on pursuing ambitious, optimistic, broad-based climate narratives in line with America Is All In.
  • Supervises and coordinates communications support for major public events pertaining to the All In strategy, including but not limited to in-person regional convenings, UNGA, and Climate Week NYC, and the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) COP events.
  • Works with media relations and PR consultants to create media strategy and build media opportunities and relationships.
  • Represents WWF and America Is All In in relevant meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of professional experience or master’s degree with 5+ years of professional experience in climate communications or related fields is required.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of prior supervisory experience is required.
  • Knowledge of climate change, conservation, and/or international development issues is required; ability to integrate environmental justice priorities required; specific expertise in U.S. climate policy will be highly valued.
  • Experience working with the media and relationships with climate and environmental reporters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to synthesize and communicate complex issues both verbally and in written form.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship and partnership development.
  • Experience building and executing communications strategies is required, experience doing so in a non-profit or public-sector environment is preferred; experience with policy communications in the context of rapidly changing news cycles is highly valued.
  • Experience overseeing complex teams and projects on deadlines.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage a multitude of details simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and collaborate effectively in a matrixed team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with Asana and other project management tools, as well as Adobe Creative Suite and other creative software tools (Canva, WordPress) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language, especially Spanish, is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills requiring knowing when to use courtesy, tact, and/or diplomacy to effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
