Job Summary

The Manager, Communications will work as part of a team of digital strategy, community engagement, change management, and communications professionals, reporting to the Managing Director, Digital Strategy and Value Realization, Digital Transformation. The successful candidate is highly skilled in communications planning and execution, embracing a user-centric approach to get their messages across. They also understand the vital role of communications and other strategies play in enabling organizational change management practices, effective collaboration and building community excitement and connection with digital transformation and innovation.

Position Description

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of both HBS Digital Transformation (DTx) and business partners across the community to help inform a more effective communications strategy
  • Proactively develop creative communications campaigns using data journalism narratives to provide the HBS community with knowledge, tools, and resources to best utilize and adapt digital transformation into their role and team’s mission
  • Translate complex concepts into clear, concise, and reader-friendly copy using data visualization, digital media, generative AI tools, and other communications methods to relay information across a broad spectrum of audiences
  • Own, update, and manage the DTx ShareSite, social media accounts, and external website regularly to share information and resources that keep the community informed on organizational updates, educational resources, and ongoing developments
  • In partnership with DTx leadership and Program Managers develop and execute detailed, multi-channel communications plans to communicate the planned and on-going work of DTx and its impact to HBS constituents
  • Participate in change management activities, helping to develop and execute plans that enable successful adoption of organizational improvement efforts
  • Proofread and edit materials for clarity, style consistency, spelling, and grammar
  • Evangelize communications norms across the team and the HBS community and serve as a resource to colleagues on communications best practices
  • Oversee the collection and publication of metrics showcasing the work of the DTx communications efforts and leverage data to recommend improvements
  • Participate in cross-HBS committees/user groups as applicable (e.g., Communities of Practice/Excellence, HBS Communications Council, etc.)
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years of of relevant work experience in writing, journalism, communications, marketing, change management, or similar work experience
  • Education beyond high school may count toward experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following are preferred:

  • BA/BS
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working as part of a team and individually driving initiatives forward
  • • Proven track record of outstanding written communication skills, including experience researching complex sets of information and successfully capturing and distilling them for a variety of readers
  • Creativity in helping the team think through various communication options, and in the writing itself by being comfortable experimenting with a range of ʺvoicesʺ
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting as priorities shift while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Possesses basic understanding of technology infrastructure, and can translate these themes for non-technical readers and/or proactive and eager to learn/develop new skills, particularly with existing and emerging media

Additional Information

This is a 40 hours/week, overtime-eligible position.

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus a determined number of days per month.Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
