The IRC’s External Relations team comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, fundraising, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. As part of External Relations, the Mass Markets USA (MMUSA) program is responsible for raising $70+ million in unrestricted revenue annually in the U.S. market and plays a meaningful strategic role in the creation of IRC’s brand, awareness, and support for its advocacy goals.
MMUSA is seeking a Manager, Donor Retention Marketing – US-Based Programs, to retain donors who support the IRC’s work to resettle refugees in the United States and to meet an ambitious annual fundraising target. Working with our network of local and regional offices, this position will thoughtfully integrate our domestic and international work to inspire meaningful giving in support of IRC’s global mission.
Job Overview:
We seek an experienced, highly collaborative marketer who cares deeply about humanitarian causes. As a key member of the Mass Markets USA team, you will manage, coordinate, and support communications designed to raise revenue to support the organization’s domestic and international programs. The focus of this position will be on partnering with IRC’s 29 domestic (U.S.-based) resettlement offices to produce and deliver integrated email, direct mail, and other communications that inspire donors and encourage giving. This position will be responsible for developing coherent donor journeys for supporters located near a resettlement office, including uplifting local engagement opportunities and championing IRC’s on-the-ground domestic work with IRC supporters.
Major Responsibilities:
Fundraising, Storytelling, and Supporter Journeys:
• In partnership with Director this role is responsible for garnering $1M+ annually in revenue to support the organization’s domestic and international programs
• Lead and advocate for communications that spotlight the fearless people we serve and how donors are empowering them to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives.
• Assists in development of content strategy that integrates messaging on domestic and international program and balances local and national fundraising moments
• Develop, write, and deliver new, conversion-inspiring content, including emails, SMS texts, direct mail and other donor-centric communications, such as emails to welcome new donors, renew active donors, and reactivate lapsed donors.
• Develop engaging copy that inspires people to become donors, sustainers, and mid-level supporters and encourages them to stay with the IRC.
• Be an IRC brand ambassador, ensuring copy is on-brand, effective, and highlights the dignity and resilience of the people we serve.
Collaboration/Project Management:
• Foster collaboration and partnership with a network of 29 offices to bolster financial and other support for IRC refugee resettlement work in the United States, including promotion of programs and events via fundraising channels.
• Partner with the retention, offline, and digital teams to help run overall fundraising strategy for Mass Markets USA, including content strategy, calendaring, audience segmentation, and donation pages.
• Partner with the analytics team and resettlement offices to develop and share reports on how target donor segments are performing across both local and national campaigns.
• Partner with nationwide resettlement offices to support donor- and volunteer-engagement efforts by maintaining a calendar of activities and meaningfully integrating local initiatives into Mass Market USA donor journeys.
• Support emerging domestic programming objectives such as community sponsorship opportunities.
Technical:
• Lead email production, using HTML/CSS or a basic text reader, and maintain sophisticated donor journeys based on supporter data, to deliver the right message at the right time to the right audience
• Build and send emails and SMS texts in Pardot, as well as build donation forms in Springboard
• Manage and build automated email series, including setting up triggers, logic, and email journeys
• Build audiences, queries, and segmentation to optimize email marketing program
• Troubleshoot and fix errors in emails and cross-platform test emails
• Set up and coordinate tracking in URLs to optimize analytics, and therefore results
• Support and streamline quality assurance testing to ensure all email program materials are perfect, including email copy, tracking, landing pages, and metadata
• Implement content strategy best practices and email marketing standard methodologies, including email deliverability and list hygiene
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent at least 3 years of professional experience in email marketing and/or digital fundraising, including production and execution of email campaigns (nonprofit or digital agency experience a plus)
• Exceptional organizational skills and project management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and adaptively in a highly collaborative, interdependent team environment
• Has a consistent track record developing and writing copy that inspires a strong and engaged supporter journeys
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
• Loves collaboration and brainstorming and can work well with colleagues across the organization
• Is passionate about digital marketing, as well as our cause, and seeks to help transform the lives of people affected by humanitarian crises

• Crafts materials that are focused on cultivation and retention, demonstrating the impact of a donor’s generosity
• Email marketing platform experience is required, Pardot experience preferred
• Shown CRM experience, Salesforce experience preferred
• Strong practical understanding of and experience with using HTML and CSS for email coding
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail and the ability to catch even the most minor of errors
• Ability to track, analyze and summarize performance results
• Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, and Excel, as well as experience using project management platforms. experience with Box preferred.
• Experience with SMS program execution and production is a plus
• Is a creative problem solver who’s able to navigate complexity and ambiguity to get to the heart of and cultivate a phenomenal story
Working Environment:
This role may require working remotely full- or part-time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace where they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
