Position Highlights

The Arizona Area Health Education Centers Program (AzAHEC) is seeking to hire a Manager, Finance. A successful candidate will possess initiative, diplomacy, and experience in state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to internal and external budgets, accounting practices, sponsored projects, and financial reporting. The incumbent will also serve as the HR liaison with duties to include payroll and hiring.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze and monitor expenditures for the AzAHEC Program office, six AHEC centers, nine Rural Health Professions Programs, and other supported projects and sub-awards to both internal and external partners.
  • Prepare and monitor the department budget as well as develop and implement sub-award terms and sub-award budgets in collaboration with Associate Director.
  • Lead all financial administration duties including pre-award, post-award, sub-award issuance and closeout processes for the AzAHEC Program office federal funding, ensuring compliance with federal and UA policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with central Sponsored Projects and UAHS Pre-Award as needed.
  • Represent the unit on University committees to initiate change and to resolve issues as a subject expert as needed.
  • Analyze program information and US policies to propose solutions in response to questions from senior leadership, center directors, principal investigators, and program administrators with financial reporting and contracting.
  • Provide financial and procedural oversight to the AHEC Graduate Medical Education program, including monitoring expenses, budget planning,
  • Serve as subject matter expert on ensuring compliance with UA policies.
  • Provide guidance and financial oversight to program leadership and program support staff.
  • Independently manage departmental HR functions, including payroll and personnel transactions.

Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to accommodate and respond to shifting priorities and projects in a manner that is effective and efficient.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and business practices, and knowledge of their application.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent
    combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant, or other related certification
  • Experience in higher education program administration, including federal funding and sub-awards, a plus.
