About the team

The finance team sits within the Finance, Strategy & Operations Division. It supports CCNSW’s strategic ambition by enabling and facilitating the building of a future ready and sustainable organisation.

About the role:

The Manager, Financial Accounting and Compliance is responsible for the financial reporting and compliance functions at CCNSW. The role is responsible for the day-to-day finance, payroll and accounting activities and leading the financial accounting team.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Responsibility for Financial Monitoring & Reporting
    • Preparation of accurate monthly financial results, within strict deadlines to enable effective financial management across CCNSW.
    • Daily management of CCNSW cash accounts.
  • Management of CCNSW Financial Accounting Function
    • Manage and monitor the balance sheet, ensuring prompt follow up on any reconciliation items.
    • Manage and monitor all debtors.
    • Management and monitoring of the CCNSW asset register.
    • Monitoring of the CCNSW inventory levels for Retail & Events, ensuring proper accounting policies are followed and any significant stocktake variances are investigated.
    • Management and monitoring of the daily and monthly income reconciliation process.
  • Management of Cost Effective Procurement
    • Provide leadership to business unit owners and managers on cost effective procurement to ensure purchasing decisions achieve the best value for money and the best outcomes for CCNSW.
    • Management of the purchasing and accounts payables functions, ensuring all expenditure is properly justified, approved, within budget and in accordance with CCNSW policies.
    • Identify, review & monitor high risk areas within the procurement process.
  • Management of Payroll Function
    • Responsibility for the fortnightly payroll at CCNSW with the assistance of the payroll coordinator.
    • Accurate reconciliations of payroll data. Completion of EOFY payroll processes/reconciliation
  • Preparation of Financial Statements & Reporting
    • Preparation of the CCNSW statutory annual financial statements and the annual external audit process, in accordance with Australian and International Financial Reporting Standards, Corporations Act 2001 and the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991 within strict deadlines, to obtain audit clearance and CFO, CEO, Audit Committee & Board approval.
    • Provide advice on the impact of changes in Australian and International Accounting Standards, and the Corporations ACT 2001.
  • Management of CCNSW Financial Compliance Obligations
    • Manage, review and approve the timely preparation and lodgment of the monthly BAS with the ATO, ensuring the correct treatment of GST in all transactions.
    • Manage, review and approve the timely preparation and lodgment of the annual FBT return with the ATO, monitoring all CCNSW staff salary packaging and other fringe benefits to ensure CCNSW incurs no FBT liability.
    • Develop, regularly review and communicate finance and administration policies for all staff across NSW to ensure the best outcomes for CCNSW.
    • Manage the accounting system for, and reporting on the allocation of, ‘restricted use income’, to ensure transparent allocation of bequests and donors in accordance with donors’ specific requests.
  • Reporting and monitoring of CCNSW’s Investment Portfolio
    • Preparation of the monthly investment performance report, for all CCNSW investments, approx $100m, for presentation to the CFO, CEO, Investment Committee & Board.
  • Leading the financial accounting team of 5 staff
    • Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency and continuous business improvement within the financial accounting team.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Economics or similar
  • CPA or CA qualification essential
  • 10 + years post CPA qualifications in a medium / large sized organisation
  • A highly-motivated individual with proven technical accounting skills
  • Adaptable, proactive, and can-do attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to work to strict deadlines with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of monthly profit & loss reporting, including a matrix of operating units, within reporting deadlines.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills, including report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with & influence at all levels within the organisation.
  • Strong commercial focus.
  • Sound knowledge of technical accounting principles
  • Advanced Skills in MS Excel & Office
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a mixture of technical and non-technical staff.
  • Demonstrated experience working with internal and external auditors and maintaining organisational internal controls

Desirable:

  • Previous exposure in a Not for Profit organisation.
  • Experience in IBM Planning Analytics (TM1 OLAP tool).
  • Experience in Technology One Business Financials which is the accounting platform in place.
  • Audit experience.
