The Safety & Security Manager will be responsible for working with staff on a wide variety of security related activities at IRI. In coordination with the Security Team, the ideal candidate will be experienced in managing security related issues in the international space and adaptable to facing issues that occur in the countries where IRI operates. The individual will be detail oriented with, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment and make decisions during exigent circumstances.

This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC. This position may involve international travel.

Position Requirements:

  • 5-7 years’ experience in security and/or intelligence experience in law enforcement, government, or military.
  • Undergraduate degree. International relations, emergency management, security studies, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with federal agencies, civil society organizations/NGOs, security firms, or equivalent combination.
  • Physical security experience, e.g., policy, risk assessments, emergency management, crisis management, intelligence, travel, event security, or transport security.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively direct or participate in complex negotiations with bilateral and/or multilateral government agencies, other donors, or relevant audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task in an environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated judgement and decision-making skills within complex environments.
  • Willingness to travel on a frequent basis, often at short notice.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to any location in which IRI works including austere environments. Anticipated travel is 25% of time.
  • Fluency in English. Additional language skills welcomed.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and manage IRI travel risk assessment process.
  • Provide training and security guidance to both headquarters and field office staff on security and operations.
  • Oversees operational support for IRI field offices abroad including field office assessments, audits, and management of field office security plans.
  • Lead or support crisis management, primarily in support of IRI field teams.
  • Manage logistics and security for discrete missions and activities abroad.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports on security and related developments in multiple countries to provide regional and country analysis and information.
  • Ensures travelers are researching risk environment before travel and conducting necessary travel briefings for staff.
  • Provide country briefings and other outside research, references, and resources.
  • Maintains technical knowledge of security protocols by attending networking events (OSAC, INSSA, UN, etc.) and other professional events for security professionals in Washington, DC.
  • Manages any IRI equipment related to security protocol.
  • Manage training and development for junior members of the Security Team.
  • As needed, serve as acting Director for IRI Global Safety and Security.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Required

Bachelors or better in Political Science or related field.

Experience

Required

5-7 years:
