Compensation Range

Job Summary
The Manager, Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (G&PS) in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the graduate program unit, including development, implementation and assessment of policies, processes and systems designed to attract applicants and yield high-calibre graduate students. In addition, the Manager G&PS is responsible for overseeing comprehensive advisory services, admissions (approximately 1000 applications annually) and annual award competitions for an extensive number of graduate-level programs (6 MSc, 6 PhD, 4 professional Master’s programs and 1 graduate certificate program). Devises and implements new strategies, procedures and approaches for managing and tracking graduate student progress and ensuring faculty compliance with minimum funding levels for research-based graduate students.
The Manager, G&PS formulates and implements plans to support the graduate and postdoctoral programs, including strategic planning, program evaluation, communication to internal and external stakeholders, and student/fellow support activities such as orientation, professional development, and leadership initiatives for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The Manager, G&PS is responsible for developing, overseeing and reconciling budgets for the G&PS Office, LFS Graduate Student Council, and LFS Scholar Seminar Series.
The Manager represents the G&PS Office on university-level projects and committees, as well as serves as a back-up for the Associate Dean, Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies as required.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Dean, Graduate Programs & Research. Participates as a member on Graduate Advisor committees. Works with faculty, staff, graduate advisors and students in the Faculty. Serves as key liaison between faculty, staff, and students and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the VP Research Office, ORS and granting agencies. Supervises and trains support staff, temporary staff and student assistants.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The ability of the LFS Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies office to provide a comprehensive and high level of service is critical to recruiting, retaining and graduating excellent graduate students, supporting postdoctoral research fellows and building strong research and professional programs. The recommendations and decisions made by the Manager will significantly impact the delivery of these services, which in turn can affect the quality of graduate students’ university experiences and academic progress. The quality of program operations affects the reputation of the Faculty and the University.
Supervision Received
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, G&PS, the Manager, G&PS works with considerable autonomy. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of specific goals and objectives determined in consultation with the Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Interacts and consults with members in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Enrollment Services, Development, and other academic and administrative units on campus. Works closely with outside agencies to provide guidance and expertise with respect to awards and scholarships (CDC, Ag Canada, etc.).
Supervision Given
Supervises, trains, and mentors Graduate Admission & Administrative Coordinator and Program Assistant positions. Performs annual performance reviews. Responsible for recruitment and hiring.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
