Together, the different backgrounds, experiences, ideas, and perspectives of our employees drive our success.Job Summary This new role – based in ConocoPhillips’ London Office – is aligned under the Government Affairs organization the incumbent will also have reporting relationship with the both the VP, Int’l Govt Affairs & Political Risk, and VP, Global LNG & London (IA) (+) and will join a Government Affairs/Political Risk team that advantages and protects the Company’s global business priorities, operations, investments, and reputation.In this role, you will proactively focus on opportunities to curate the Company’s strategic appreciation for the threats and opportunities confronting our business, while building and maturing the political relationships to advantage maneuver through both. The role also requires the agency and finesse to build, participate in, and prosper cross-functional collaboration with a range of internal stakeholders, including our Commercial, Legal, Operational, Communications, and Corporate Planning colleagues.While this role is focused on supporting the Company’s reputation, current positions, and future growth opportunities in Europe, it is also a key focal point for integrating aspects of our global commercial strategy, operations, and investments in service thereof. As such, it will require a close understanding of the diverse set of corporate and regional strategies that can be harnessed to generate opportunities in Europe. Curating options for our current/future European opportunities to create reciprocal strategic benefits for other regional/commercial initiatives will be equally as important.Job DescriptionYour responsibilities may include:In direct communication with – and under the strategic guidance of the VP – IGA/POLRISK and other key internal stakeholders – you will:Enhance the depth and quality of our political relationships across Germany’s national, regional, and local terrain, including senior elected officials, legislators, ministerial leaders, civil servants, and other key influencersSet the priorities for ground-game lobbying in Berlin, direct resources to achieve results, and evaluate the effects of interventionsGenerate ‘leading-edge’ intelligence in support of key corporate objectives via individual and consultant networks; solicit key intelligence questions from internal clientsManage the Company’s relationship with key German industry/trade associations and think tanks, and appropriately shape their workplans to support our business prioritiesShape and grow key diplomatic contacts in Berlin, with particular emphasis on the US EmbassyBuild an initial capacity to monitor and provide early warning of European Union (EU) policy trends/actions that could impose costs and/or otherwise disrupt (1) our current positions in Europe; and (2) our strategy to create onward commercial opportunities thereinShape and deploy a scaled EU consultant/lobbying capability to achieve this across key institutions (e.g., European Commission)Identify opportunities to improve the scope of our EU political relationships in Brussels and elsewhere; recommend engagement actionsManage the Company’s relationship with key EU industry/trade associations and think tanks, and appropriately shape their workplans to support our business prioritiesCultivate and grow key diplomatic contacts in BrusselsIn service to all of the above, build custom political engagement strategies to enhance the resilience of our current positions in Europe, and advantage our growth priorities in the region – notably around LNG marketsRepresent ConocoPhillips externally to high-profile political audiences and take an active role in ensuring the Company is appropriately and strategically positioned/understoodBasic/Required:University-level degree in international relations/studies, political science, or related disciplines or foreign equivalentPreferred:Master’s degree or higher or foreign equivalentSuperlative communication skills with a natural sense of inclusion, and clear appreciation for the value diverse viewpoints and interpretations play in ‘winning’ analysis of complex political issuesAn ability to stay focused on and pace the priorities of our internal clients and deliver the intelligence/advice required to establish and sustain advantageSubstantive experience in global government affairs, strategic advocacy plans/execution, stakeholder engagement, political advisory, and/or government serviceApplied knowledge of baseline political intelligence methodologies in private and/or public sector settingsRegional appreciation for European political dynamics, and direct experience translating that expertise into business results at the strategic levelExperience working in a global context within the O&G industry, or other asset-intensive/industrial environment (e.g., extractives, manufacturing) a plusTakes ownership of actions and follows through on dedications by holding others accountable and standing up for what’s rightBuilds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goalsBuilds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethicalApply Before: July 5, 2024Sponsorship: ConocoPhillips’ sponsorship for employment authorization in the country where this job is located is available for this position.EEO: ConocoPhillips is an equal opportunity employer.
