generational poverty head on and ensure a better future for our

achieve our mission. The Manager of Financial
Stability Initiatives managesinvestmentsand
initiatives related to the development, implementation, and
scale of financial stability efforts, aiding in the
creation and advancement of economic stability
strategies to self-sufficiency and economic mobility
for households throughout Central Indiana. This manager
position will support efforts to engage key stakeholders
including but not limited
to community-based organizations, educational
institutions including post-secondary, employers and
industry/sector partners, government, intermediary organizations,
and internal and external stakeholders in support of connecting
youth and adults to financial stability and economic
opportunity. Additionally, this position works in a
collaborative and integrated manner across the Issue Based
team and Impact division as well as across
all other areas of UWCI to ensure that
the organizational goals and strategies are realized, and
to assist Central Indiana in making significant
progress toward meeting its poverty reduction
goals.  

 

Position Summary 

 

Under the direction of the Director of Economic Mobility in the
Impact Division, the Manager of Financial Stability Initiatives
will implement and manage a variety of initiatives
and projects supporting United Way’s Economic
Mobility strategy including Center for Working
Familiesand Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). This
position requires strong knowledge of community practices to
increase economic mobility, including financial stability
programming.In collaboration with the Issue Based Team,
the Manager of Financial Stability Initiatives aids in
the creation and advancement of pathways to economic mobility for
households in Central Indiana.   

 

Position Duties & Responsibilities 

 

  • Lead a portfolio
    of investments and initiatives advancingthe development,
    implementation, and scale of financial stability efforts anchored
    within the Center for Working Families™ framework, an
    integrated service model supporting families to increase income,
    reduce expenses, and build assets.  
  • Responsible for the
    coordination, implementation, and oversight of Volunteer
    Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) federal grant in
    support of low-income and elderly resident tax
    preparation assistance (project-based during tax season
    beginning in October lasting until June). 
  • Establish, manage, and
    scale financial stability programming in collaboration with
    external partners through training,
    technical assistance, thought partnership, and
    convening.   
  • Prioritize and promptly
    respond to technical assistance inquiries from partners
    by assessing their needs, providing training and
    development that addresses the identified needs, brokering services
    of other consultants, and/or providing information and
    resources to assist the organizations.  
  • Collaborate with UWCI
    staff to measure and report on the impact of financial stability
    services, while simultaneously interfacing with
    community-based organization partners to review funded grantees’
    evaluation reports and monitor grantees’ progress in
    achieving key objectives, ensuring timely reporting
    of UWCI grant-funded activities, metrics, and related
    outcomes.Build, maintain, and prioritize trusted relationships with
    partner organizations, manage appropriate and timely correspondence
    through a variety of mediums. Strive to be the best partner to
    all stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with
    Director of Economic Mobility to manage special grant making
    programs as assigned, responsible for adhering
    to and ongoing management within the departmental
    budget.  
  • Collaborate
    cross-functionally across the UWCI organization to ensure all
    initiatives are integrated across UWCI’s Issue
    BasedStrategies, and across UWCI’s goals for donors to Give,
    Advocate and Volunteer. 
  • Perform special
    assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.

independently, and an attitude toward achieving
outcomes.Initiative, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency
are essential.  

 

Education and/or Experience  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in
    business administration, public
    administration, psychology or
    related areas with a focus on nonprofit management and/or
    governance strongly preferred.   
  • At least (5) years’
    experience working in a relevant field including financial
    stability programming, economic development, nonprofit
    management, and/or intermediary effortsrequired. 
  • Experience working
    within and across a broad range of financial stability
    and workforce development-based systems including interfacing
    with community-based organizations, employers, educational
    institutions, state and local partners, workforce ecosystem
    intermediaries, and other system stakeholdersrequired. 
  • Strong project
    management skills requiredwith demonstrated ability
    to execute and follow through to achieve intended results, by
    following through on commitments, prioritizing work, and managing
    time and resources well. 
  • Significant
    and demonstrated experience building and managing diverse
    networks that support efforts to produce systemic
    change preferred. 
  • Ability to facilitate
    convenings, workshops, focus groups, task groups,
    etc. preferred. 
  • Must possess excellent
    interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as a
    sense of humor, diplomacy and discretion, critical thinking, and
    judgment.   
  • Knowledge of the Central
    Indiana economic mobility ecosystem, key stakeholders
    operational within financial stability and workforce
    ecosystem, and the state/local workforce system is highly
    desirable.  

*Work experience may substitute for education requirements on a
case-by-case basis.
