Manager of Grants and Institutional Giving

JDC has an exciting new position for an experienced development
professional with expertise in partnerships and prospecting for
grants. The Manager of Grants and Institutional Giving serves as a
front-line fundraiser on behalf of JDC and creates an additional
strategic channel to enhance our fundraising efforts across the
department. This role is expected to pioneer new partnerships with
foundations and corporate donors to raise funds in support of JDC’s
mission. The ideal candidate for this role will focus on
identifying prospects, submitting grant applications for priority
programs, and cultivating relationships with new foundation and
corporate donors nationally and globally. This role is a strategic
partner, passionate supporter of JDC’s global mission and is
dedicated to cultivating and managing a donor base through strong
communication and relationship-building.

 

JDC’s Global Resource Development department is driven by JDC’s
historic mission, as we cultivate and grow relationships with
philanthropists worldwide to secure resources for the leading
global Jewish humanitarian organization. Our department comprises a
highly motivated and dynamic team that is committed to excellence
in all we do. JDC’s Global Resource Development Department is
responsible for $150 – $250 million annually in total philanthropic
funding from individuals, foundations, corporations, Jewish
Federations, and others, for restricted and unrestricted purposes,
including emergencies and annual giving.

What will you do as a Manager of Grants and
Institutional Giving?

  • Develop donor and prospect relationships by translating
    complex, innovative ideas into compelling, outcomes-driven and
    funder-ready letters of inquiry, proposals, grant reports,
    agreements, presentations, and other correspondence for a diverse
    audience of corporations, and foundations.
  • Strategically build and prioritize ongoing relationships with
    potential for multi-year and multi-level partnerships with
    foundations, corporations and other partners.
  • Steward donor relationships in partnership with Global Resource
    Development team colleagues.
  • Work in close partnership with JDC program professionals across
    the organization and the RD writing team.
  • Oversee overall grant management activities for assigned
    donors. Track grant requirements and deadlines. Use CRM (currently,
    Raiser’s Edge) database to manage relationships, track grants
    received, reports due, pending proposals, and prospects
  • Develop activity and fundraising metrics with supervisor
  • Familiarize yourself with JDC’s global mission and work
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time

 

What qualifications are required to be our Manager of
Grants and Institutional Giving?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required
  • Proven track record (7+ years) of foundation relations
    experience or comparable work
  • Experience with donor research tools, such as Donor Search,
    Impala, and iWave,
  • Prior experience in developing and managing strategic
    partnerships and stewarding individual donors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including
    ability to present in front of lay and professional committees and
    leadership.
  • Strong analytical and prospect-research skills
  • Ability to think and plan strategically in the context of broad
    organizational goals
  • Ability to proactively seek out information and network
    internally to develop expertise about the various programs at JDC
    for prospective funders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills; cultural competency,
    ability to work and communicate well with colleagues and partners
    from a wide range of cultures
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Flexibility for significant travel internationally and
    domestically, as needed, to develop and maintain internal and
    external relationships
  • Dedication and passion for the work of the JDC and global
    Jewish issues and the ability to effectively translate that to
    prospects and donors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required, including
    PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to engage and work closely with colleagues across the
    organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, and
    successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight
    deadlines

 

Additional Preferred Skills and
Competencies:

  • Experience with CRMs (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Microsoft
    Dynamics)
  • Experience managing partnerships or donors at a Jewish
    organization or within the Jewish communal space
  • Familiarity with Israel and global Jewry
  • Ability to read words and numbers
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other office
    equipment
  • Ability to communicate in person or over the telephone

 

Additional Details

  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch
    break
  • Location: Hybrid from New York, NY in office Tuesdays and
    Thursdays
  • Reports to: Senior Director of Global Resource Development
  • Job Function/Department: Resource Development (RD)
  • Other: This role requires some travel, anticipated to be 3
    overseas trips/year

 

What are the compensation and benefits for a Manager of
Grants and Institutional Giving?

This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of
$100,000-$125,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls
in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and
experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of
work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
