Under the direction of the service area Leader, the Radiation Therapy Manager supervises and coordinates all technical staff including evaluating performance to enhance high quality radiation therapy and/or imaging and clinical activities within service area. Participates in Performance Improvement as well as the Quality Assurance programs to assure accuracy of treatment plan and delivery. The Radiation Therapy Manager is responsible for interviewing, hiring, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, Develops performance expectations, and department objectives for radiation staff positions to ensure efficiency and productivity. Ensures effective staff coverage for the department, within budgetary guidelines. Implements standard radiation therapy and diagnostic policies and procedures throughout the department. Ensures all staff members maintain state licensure and are adequately trained to perform duties. Works cooperatively with the management team and members of other departments to ensure teamwork and cooperation between radiation and imaging staff and other personnel. Ensures the timely and cost effective ordering of radiation supplies. If needed on a temporary basis, performs tasks assigned to radiation and imaging staff as necessary and appropriate to area of education and expertise. Assist the director in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term plans and budgets based on organization goals and objectives. Responsible for the correct use of charge codes and all billing is completed in a timely manner. Responsible for the provision of quality radiation care.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides for appropriate staffing levels to ensure high quality services operations.
  • Facilitates the continuity of care through the communication of information to all team members.
  • Coordinates and meets multiple patient needs and requests; sets priorities.
  • Evaluates and assesses daily, the patient’s physical and psychological responses to treatment and refers patients for appropriate management when indicated.
  • Provides for training, continuing education and staff orientation.
  • Attends and actively participates in chart rounds, and departmental meetings.
  • Plans for provision of services through provision of appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff. Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of services.
  • Maintains values congruent with the profession’s code of ethics and scope of practice as well as adhering to national institutional and/or departmental standards, policies and procedures regarding treatment delivery and patient care.
  • Assists the Department in meeting accreditation requirements by licensing agencies. Establishes and maintains Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities which support the Department and Hospital.
  • Participates in the probationary and annual performance appraisal review for the therapists. Assist in the process of commendations, counseling, interview and selection of new employees.
  • Uses the budget as a tool to finding more effective methods of care delivery. Participates in planning and goal setting for the Radiation Oncology department.
  • Coordinates daily activities so as to devote complete attention to all necessary tasks involved in the treatment delivery.
  • Resolves problems, disputes, complaints and criticism in a timely manner, informs the director and manager of any problems.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relations that contribute to high moral with the department by establishing a good working rapport with team workers. Responds to the needs of the department by accurately performing the daily billing and assures that all procedures performed are properly accounted for.
  • Ensures completion of occurrence reports and investigates in a timely manner. Notifies Risk management immediately for significant or potentially significant events.
  • Performs daily and periodic quality assurance checks and related results, detects equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains and reports clinic statistics in a timely manner.
  • Continually develop processes, procedures and controls to drive revenue integrity.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are in place to support scope of service.
  • Demonstrate respect for confidentiality of medical records and privileged knowledge.
  • Maintains and reports clinic statistics in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor’s degree The candidate is required to be a graduate from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • Req Specialized/technical training Graduate from an accredited ARRT Radiation Therapy Technology program.
  • 10+ years’ experience as a radiation therapist may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree. (*Must still possess an an ARRT certification from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology Program)
  • Req 5 years Supervisory experience in related field.
  • Req Must have knowledge of basic dosimerty, MLC, CT Simulation and IMRT.
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
  • Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Radiation Therapy (ARRT)
  • Req Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH)
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 – $219,648.00.
