Managing Director, Environmental & Social Policy

This position is part of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Office of Development Policy (ODP), Environmental and Social (E&S) Risk Assessment Division. The Managing Director, Environmental & Social Policy serves as a first level supervisor and oversees the guiding E&S risk policies that govern the review of DFC finance, equity, insurance, and investment funds projects for compliance with DFC’s statutory and policy requirements regarding E&S risks and impacts.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a first level supervisor, leading the Environmental & Social (E&S) Policy Team.
  • Manages environmental and social policy positions and procedural guidance for the environmental and social assessment of DFC projects; manages the document control, revision processes, and dissemination of all E&S policy, procedure, guidance and template developments.
  • Guides the development of updated procedures for the E&S Division, inclusive of policy-specific work; maintains these procedures in support of environmental and social clearance and monitoring work, in compliance with best practice for environmental and social performance, DFC statutory requirements, DFC’s Environmental and Social Policy Statement, and the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Performance Standards.
  • Supports the Associate VP of E&S and other E&S supervisors on decision-making for project approval and monitoring activities in relation to environmental and social policy positions.
  • Represents DFC and ODP at high-level meetings both inside and outside DFC on sensitive environmental and social matters.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements no later than the closing date of this announcement.

You may qualify at the GS-15 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to 1) provide advice to internal stakeholders on strategies to mitigate environmental and/or social risks of investments/projects across a range of sectors, financial products, and/or risk profiles; 2) recommend or implement updates to environmental or social risk due diligence, assessment, and/or monitoring policies or procedures; and 3) lead, train and/or mentor others.

Note: Education is not substitutional at this grade level.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Telework Suitability: The duties of this position are suitable for telework. The selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act.

Stipulations of Employment: Selection may require completion of a 1-year probationary period.
