Institutional Giving

Job Overview:
The Managing Director of Institutional Giving (MDIG) is a new
position serving as a senior Development team member. The MDIG will
report to the Chief Development Officer and partner on strategic
visioning for fundraising at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan.
The MDIG will lead and supervise the Institutional Giving team
while carrying a robust portfolio of institutional and governmental
donors.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Supervision:
- Oversee the IG team – 1 full-time staff and 1 contractor
- Establish goals and objectives for the IG team
- Create accountability and metrics for measuring success
- Review and finalize all grant submissions from the IG team
Grant Writing:
- Write LOIs, proposals, and reports for grants from foundations,
government agencies, and corporate supporters. - Work with program Center Directors to develop budgets,
proposals, and reports - Work with Marketing staff to gather samples of outreach
materials, photos of events and programs, and other supporting
materials relevant to the LOI, proposal, or report - Partner with the Finance team to ensure proper submission and
reporting of budgets
Evaluation:
- Serve as the lead in championing evaluation across the
organization, including organizing training and developing survey
and evaluation skills - Work with Center and program staff to develop evaluation
instruments to ensure the inclusion of participation and
performance data required by grantmakers for reporting
purposes
Grants Management:
- Establish and maintain positive and respectful working
relationships with grant administrators and key staff at
grantmaking institutions - Ensure the IG team maintains an up-to-date and shareable
calendar of all submission deadlines and grant deliverables - Ensure the IG team maintains an accurate and complete archive
of all LOIs, proposals, reports, attachments, and award
documents - Oversee the regular reporting of each LOI, proposal, and grant
award status - Work with Finance to update the status of grant awards,
payments, and allocation of funds - Provide grant revenue information for Center- or
program-specific budget preparation and forecasting
Prospecting:
- Work with Center Directors to identify funding priorities,
needs, and long-term plans - Conduct regular scans of upcoming institutional grant
opportunities that match funding priorities - Produce grant maker profiles outlining their funding history
and preferences, eligibility requirements, and best fit for our
funding needs. Include names of key people at each institution to
assist executive management in determining the viability of the
request and identifying existing relationships - Work with the Chief of Development to develop short- and
long-term fundraising strategies for supporting Centers and
programs
General Fundraising Support:
- Create meeting prep materials (e.g., one-sheets, talking
points, program highlights, program summaries, sponsorship options,
Case for Support documents, fact sheets, presentations, etc.) for
Development staff and/or Executive team to meet with major donors
and grant makers - Attend donor and prospect meetings whenever possible to gather
information about creating new grant requests - Assist with staffing needs at fundraising events (e.g., Annual
Benefit)
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following
qualities and attributes:
- Experience supervising and building systems of
accountability - Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Superior writing and editing skills
- Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with staff and
stakeholders at all levels of the organization (executive team,
center directors, finance, program staff, marketers, development
colleagues, community partners, etc.) - Command of software applications from Microsoft Office to the
Google Suite along with CRMs - Excellent understanding of and agility in working with online
proposal submission platforms - Commitment to representing the JCC with enthusiasm, warmth, and
professionalism. - Culture- and mission-driven focus
- At least 10 years of grant writing experience in the nonprofit
sector or 7+ years as a program/grants manager at a funding
institution. Previous supervision experience is a plus - This position is full-time in office
Salary Range:
Minimum $120,000 – Maximum $150,000
